From an unusually good source: Obama’s tweet supporting Joe Biden was disingenuous. In private, Obama is telling people Biden can’t win, and he is therefore in favor of an open convention. Obama will not say whom he supports, nor as of yesterday afternoon had he met personally with Biden to deliver the message. Relations between the Obamas and the Bidens have never been warm. At times they’ve been hostile. But recently they’ve deteriorated further, mostly due to Jill Biden. In the hours and days after the debate, she kept her husband cloistered away from anyone who might convince him to drop out. Jill Biden is the driving force behind her husband’s reelection campaign, just as she was in 2020, when other members of the family (including Biden’s sister Val) considered him too impaired to run. The next generation of potential Democratic candidates understands all this as an opportunity and they’re circling, particularly Gretchen Whitmer, who is promoting herself aggressively.

Trump’s History of Lying About Voting After the 2016 Election, in which Trump lost the popular vote, he claimed “millions of people… voted illegally.” He offered ABSOLUTELY ZERO EVIDENCE to support his claim. Out of 135 million votes in 2016, there were 4 proven cases of voter fraud: 3 were Trump supporters and 1 involved a mayoral race in Miami. After Trump’s baseless claims in 2016, he used taxpayer money to form a Voter Fraud Commission with VP Mike Pence as chair. The Commission met just twice and never issued a report. A subsequent Freedom of Information Act lawsuit forced the Commission to turn over the materials they considered, and these documents revealed ZERO EVIDENCE of voter fraud in the 2016 Election. Six months prior to the 2020 Election, Trump began to groom his followers with unproven rumors of voter fraud. He told reporters, “Mail-in ballots are… dangerous… They’re fraudulent in many cases…” Three months later, when it was clear he was behind in the polls, Trump said, “mail-in voting is going to rig the election.” Again, he provided ABSOLUTELY ZERO EVIDENCE. Mail-in ballots have been a staple of US Elections since WWII. In 2016, 1 in 4 ballots were cast via mail, 5 states conducted all their voting through mail, no excuse mail-in voting was allowed in 29 states, and every other state allowed it based on a valid excuse. Only 0.00006% of mail-in ballots throughout history have been proven fraudulent. Fraud via mail-in voting is less common a phenomenon than being struck by lightning. On election night 2020, well before all the votes were finished being counted, Trump claimed he “WON.” His campaign manager and other top WH aides testified under oath that they told Trump HE HAD NOT WON. Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s private attorney, was the only person present who advised Trump to claim victory. According to the sworn testimony of senior WH advisor Jason Miller, Giuliani was drunk. Giuliani has since been found liable for $148 million for his public lies about voting in the 2020 Election. Several days later, when the major network and cable news channels, including Fox News, called the 2020 Election for Joe Biden, Trump tweeted “I WON THIS ELECTION BY A LOT.” Again, he provided ABSOLUTELY ZERO EVIDENCE. Leading up to the riot at the US Capitol on January 6th, Trump continued to claim he “WON,” regardless of the official count, all recounts, all audits, the determination of the actual legal electors – both Republican and Democrat – and 62 COURT DECISIONS upholding Biden's victory. Since the 2020 Election, the American public has learned that TEAM TRUMP ENGAGED IN A MULTIPRONGED ASSUALT ON US DEMOCRACY. They pressured state officials to “find” votes; they pressured the DOJ to “just say the election was corrupt,” they filed fraudulent elector documents in 7 states; and they even considered using the US military to seize state voting machines. Seventeen of Trump’s private lawyers have been court sanctioned for their public lies. Three Trump lawyers have pled guilty to participating in Trump’s conspiracy to subvert democracy. Every election expert in the Trump WH, including his own handpicked Republican Attorney General Bill Barr, have testified under oath that they repeatedly told Trump there was no fraud. Regardless, Trump continues to claim that he won the 2020 Election DESPITE ALL THE RELEVANT EVIDENCE. On New Year’s Eve 2024, Trump began laying the groundwork for the LIE that the 2024 Election will be rigged. Again, he provided ABSOLUTELY ZERO EVIDENCE. Via his social media platform, he suggested that the Biden Administration is allowing immigrants to enter the US to vote. It is against the law for non-citizens to vote in all Federal Elections, as well as all statewide elections. According to Conservative based think tank the Heritage Foundation, there are only 53 proven cases of non-citizens voting in Federal Elections in our Nation’s 250-year history. Donald Trump repeatedly and shamelessly LIES about the right that is essential to what makes us American: VOTING!
