The question I’ve been asked more times than ever is simple: “How?” And most of the time, this question is not just asked to me. It’s asked to people far more experienced, far more intelligent, and far more accomplished than myself in sports. I have listened. I’ve sat with people at the Nigeria Football Federation. I’ve listened to those in the Sports Commission. I’ve spoken to journalists, coaches, players. I’ve seen disputes: agents vs players, clubs vs players, coaches vs players, federations vs clubs. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone has a version of the solution. But I keep coming back to one thing: If we truly want to fix this system, we have to go back to the root of the problem. One of the biggest questions is: Why do embassies make it so difficult for Nigerian players, coaches, scouts, and sports professionals to get visas? Is it because the Nigerian passport is weak? Is it because Europe doesn’t want Nigerian talent? Is it because of politics? No. None of these are the real reason. The real reason is much simpler, and much more uncomfortable: There is no trusted system in Nigeria that proves who is who in sports. In countries like Germany, France, Spain if you say you are a player, a coach, a scout, or even a journalist, there is somewhere to verify that. There is a central database. There is a record. There is accountability. Before you even travel, your federation already knows: Who you are Where you are going Why you are going How long you are supposed to stay And if anything goes wrong, there are consequences. In Nigeria, that system does not exist. Anybody can wake up and say: “I am a player” “I am a coach” “I am going for trials” And yes, they may even show documents. But let’s be honest — even embassies know how easy it is to manipulate paperwork here. They have local staff. They have advisors. They understand the system better than we think. So when they see an application, they are not looking at your story. They are asking: “Can we trust this person to return?” “Can anyone in Nigeria hold this person accountable?” And right now, the honest answer is: No. That is why they ask for excessive documents. That is why they reject genuine people. That is why even real players struggle. So what is the solution? Not more talking. Not more complaints. Not more blame. The solution is structure. Nigeria needs a centralized sports verification and compliance system. A system where: Every player, coach, scout, agent, and journalist is registered Their identity is verified Their career history is recorded Their affiliations are clear So that at any point in time, anyone can be traced and validated. Then comes the second layer: Before any international travel, the federation approves it. Not casually — formally. If you are traveling for 5 days, it is recorded as 5 days. If you are traveling for 10 days, it is recorded as 10 days. Clear purpose. Clear timeline. Clear accountability. Then comes the most important part: Enforcement. If you don’t return when you are supposed to: You are flagged You are contacted If you fail to respond, you are reported Not by the embassy — but by your own system. Once that happens, something powerful is created: Trust. And once trust exists: Visas become easier Movement increases Players attend real trials Coaches attend real programs Scouts travel and build networks Journalists cover international events And most importantly: Investors begin to take Nigeria seriously. Because investment does not follow noise. It follows structure. It follows accountability. It follows systems that work. This is not about talent. Nigeria has never had a talent problem. This is not even about funding. Money comes when the system makes sense. This is about one thing: Trust, backed by structure, enforced by accountability. Until we fix that, we will keep having the same conversations. Different panels. Different speakers. Same outcome. Nothing changes. But the moment we fix this one thing, everything changes.
Adereti Adesoji@AgentZee10

I guess over 70% of licensed agents in Nigeria have one or two stories about how the system makes it difficult to help local talents achieve their dreams. A big part of the problem lies with embassies and the negative perception of our passport, which keeps holding genuine opportunities back. Man, I love this country… but it can be really stressful.

I think we'd need more details Why is he refusing to pay? Did he give you any reason or he just ghosted you? The fact that you didn't sign a contract is a red flag I had a client in December, signed a contract, started working in January, ghosted me in February My friends are telling me he's a scam but I don't want to believe that I've reached out to him, he isn't reachable I'm giving him till the end of April before I drag him on LinkedIn since that was where we started from My 300k can't go like that 🤧 I have a contract and proof of work I did.
Technical Ben@TechnicalBben

I'm calling on all the idolo's, please what do you think she can do? The client owes her $ 4,000 (Australian dollars) for a job she did, and she has people to pay. And I think she didn't sign a contract either. Help I'm confused 😕

1. Most of the people you see today bearing football related nicknames, na for viewing center them name them 😂 2. For viewing centers, footballers are being renamed and funny enough, you go visit another city and see them calling the footballer the same name. CR7 was renamed Ororo/Ototo C, Tevez “vampire”, Shaun Wright Philips “motor umuaka” John Terry “wife snatcher” 😂😂😂 3. For here, you fit dey relate with a guy for months without knowing his name. Once una jam for road, you go hear “Team United” if una dey support the same club, or “Arsenal” if he supports a different club. One guy still dey call me United till date, he hasn’t bothered to know my real name 😂😂😂 4. For Naija viewing centers, the only two teams that exist are Chelsea and Manchester United. In fact as a United or Chelsea fan, no ever pray make your team lose and you are watching in a viewing center that they know you very well. You go see the real hatewatch 😂 5. Na for viewing center you go know say boys dey appreciative wella. You fit pay 100 naira viewing fee for one guy make you turn his “Senior man” for the rest of his life 😂

No club, federation or agency will sponsor a Nigerian scout from Lagos to seme border speak less of abroad. Not blaming the clubs as they are barely surviving but that just tells you the situation.

This boy always make me talk! 😃😃 I get offended with FIFA and NFF alot, one of the reasons is this! Ask any agent, any scout or coach who has FIFA Agent license, Scouting license and CAF B or C, born and raised in Nigeria to tell you how difficult visa is for them! As an agent most times you have to work with other Eurpean agents, giving mandate or rights of your player because if a club randomly message you to come to discuss about your player there is a high chance you won't get visa! But the Europeans will get visa easily to anywhere! When Have you ever seen a Nigerian born scout invited for trials abroad? Even in Nigeria do you see them get invited? What about coaches? The best goal keeper trainer in Nigeria is @dosu_john , how many clubs invite him to give a course on goalkeepers? FIFA and NFF put no value on local coaches, scouts and agents which is why embassies and corporate institutions also treat Them as charity not as professionals.
SKARRA 🇪🇺🇳🇬 ⚽@Tomisin_Alasiri

Mehnnnnn. Some hard truths in here. Nigerian passport. Visa issues has messed a lot of deals up. Even As an agent, your ability to move around with ease with a good passport can help you broker a lot of deals.

Memory lane: The year was 2021, mumu like me went all over Europe and spoke to clubs that I will go find them talented players, they all agreed. Mumu like me took loans, used my money, went over Nigeria organizing scouting events! Over 100m gone, found so many players, sent clubs videos and data! Invites started flowing from serbia, italy, france, greece Viterbese for example Was in Serie C then, I thought! I'm great! I wil move at least 40 players in 1 year! Mumu like me😃😃😃 Embassy politics and Nigerian system made sure I couldn't move even 4! Took my losses, still paying my debts! Learned a valuable lesson. Person wey e work for go think say others lazy! Nigeria is not about invites or club interest, people that know how to get visas and such must be respected because it's not easy and can turn a genius to a fool. A mumu like me learned the hard way.

For those who do not understand how the English divisions are ranked, especially when you see Step 6, you don’t know the meaning, let me explain so you can understand the journey of this club. Premier League - Tier 1 Championship - Tier 2 League One - Tier 3 League Two - Tier 4 These 4 are Professional/Football Leagues. Full time footballers. National League - Step 1 (Tier 5, non league football, they’re often paid, but not as much as those in the EFL) National League North/South - Step 2 (Tier 6) Regional Premier Divisions such as Northern Premier League Premier, Southern Premier League Central/South, Isthmian League - Step 3 (Tier 7, Regional Semi Pro) Regional divisions such as Northern Premier League Division One East/West, Southern Premier Division One Central/South, Isthmian North/South Central / South East - Step 4 (Tier 8) Lower Regional Leagues such as Northern Counties East League (NCEL), Midland League, North West Counties Football League, Northern League, Combined Counties League, Spartans South Midlands League, Wessex League, Western League - Step 5 (Tier 9, these are more like grassroots) County-level leagues such as Northern Counties East League Division One, Midland League Division One, North West Counties Football League Division One, Northern League Division Two, Combined Counties League Division One, Spartans South Midlands League Division One, Wessex League Division One, Western League Division One - Step 6 (Tier 10) There’s still Step 7, but quite irrelevant, let me not bore you. Now you can understand what Walton & Horsham have done in 6 years. I have attached a one-stop shop pyramid to also explain further, hope you learnt something today?

When you watch Yamal, you will agree he’s better than Olise. When you watch Olise, you will agree he’s better than Yamal. The difference between Lamine Yamal and Olise is mainly in how they approach the game and impact it. Yamal is a Pure winger. Direct, fearless, loves to take on defenders 1v1. Very explosive with quick touches and sharp dribbling. Olise is More of a creator. Slower tempo, but very smooth. He picks passes, controls rhythm, and plays with composure. Yamal attacks you. Olise studies you. Yamal is an Aggressive dribbler. Beats players with speed and unpredictability. Olise is an Elegant dribbler. Uses body feints, close control, and timing rather than pace. Yamal Creates through chaos, dribbles, quick decisions, final-third actions. Olise Creates through vision, key passes, crosses, set pieces, and through balls. Both are currently the best RW in the world now, just how they impact games is different.

My pain isn't even related to my own situation, but rather to this inability to be there for people who are going through difficult times, and tell them, "count on me, I'll take care of the bill." I just want to be that person making people still believe in the beauty of life.
