1/2 Very sad to report that Baroness Audrey Emerton DBE GCStJ FRCN died on 27/2/26 after a long deterioration in her health. She served the Order of St John @StJohnINTL for 80 years having joined in 1946. She had a very distinguished NHS nursing career and was lately for StJohn..

It may have been aired in 1982, but this South Bank Show edition portraying the Hull poet Philip Larkin at 60 is still worth the viewing... youtu.be/XdeEFErYVtk?si…

@peterdobsonuk He should not step aside at his chosen date - Jan 6 I think. He should be booted out tomorrow, along with all others in the cutter/chain of command who knew and did nothing or almost nothing. He has no shame, nor do they. Very unchristian. Do they ask ‘ what wld Jesus do?’

@Channel4News @cathynewman Keep going Cathy. You are doing excellent and important work. This needs to be seen through in its entirety. All names must resign. Serious reform must be introduced.

Former Culture and Education Secretary, Baroness Nicky Morgan tells @cathynewman the debate over whether bishops should be in the House of Lords has been 'hastened' by the church abuse scandal.

There are whole books on psychology that don't get anywhere near this paragraph from Dostoevsky

@MartynPercy @churchofengland @GenSyn Meanwhile, there are known instances of the safeguarding system being abused and weaponised to remove unwanted priests (who have actually not been guilty of a safeguarding issue).

Correct. @churchofengland safeguarding is incompetent, corrupt, unregulated, unlicensed, unaccountable: top to bottom. Senior CofE officials have known this for years. And covered it up. CofE unsafe until these people resign. Or everyone must opt out instead. @GenSyn get a grip.
Dr Tom Harrison@TheJupitersays

Parents and carers need to have open eyes about @ChurchofEngland activities. The growing evidence is that church abuse is covered up. Complaints to bishops about abuse at church are simply ignored or treated appallingly. The CofE is not safe.

I don't think the CofE will begin to transform its broken and morally depleted culture until the trio of Justin Welby, Stephen Cottrell, William Nye have all three gone.. The CofE has no hope without fresh leadership committed to transparency.

@BishopNewcastle As the CofE is the Established Church, perhaps someone could raise a suitably worded petition on the UK Government website to this effect? At the very least, it would (a) demonstrate the feeling of the people and (b) force a Commons debate on the whole issue.

11 survivors of church abuse have written to the Archbishop of York TO RESIGN, over the sadistic, evil and horrendous treatment they have got from the Church of England. The cover up of abuse in the church continues today. Please retweet.

@seaofcomplicity Again on the grapevine, I heard that at least one parish priest in Lincolnshire was telling his congregation not to discuss the situation amongst themselves.

Heard on the grapevine that comms strategy around Stephen Conway, Bishop of Lincoln, is for him to lie low for 2 weeks, and the storm will pass… Leadership of CofE is in crisis mode

This is a clear and frank call for the resignation and/or dismissal of @CottrellStephen for his dishonesty and culpable neglect. Along with Wm. Nye and senior LamPal advisors, we expect them to take responsibility for all the harm they continue to cause. independentsafeguarding.org/open-letter

@MartynPercy Has anyone noticed that the suggested date for Welby to leave is the same date as his 69th birthday (6th Jan)? Presumably, that has pension implications?

After the Makin Report, the following clergy have been suspended: Hugh Palmer, Nick Stott, Sue Colman and Rico Tice. Meanwhile, bishops Justin Welby, Stephen Conway, Jo Wells, Andrew Watson and Archdeacon Roger Combes etc have not been suspended. Spot the difference? Hypocrisy?
