The Church of England’s General @synod convenes in York this weekend. Please pray for us as we come together as one body in Christ. May we seek God faithfully and be guided by the hope and wisdom found in Jesus Christ.

Religion is essential to understanding society and must be given greater prominence in the media if trust is to be rebuilt and communities held together, according to the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell. In his keynote speech at the Religion Media Festival, he argued that faith remains fundamental to public life and cannot be treated as marginal or private: 'Religious literacy is essential for community cohesion'. youtube.com/watch?v=okF_4I…

During RECOGNISE Week, it was a joy to welcome those serving in Youth and Children’s Ministry to Bishopthorpe Palace as a small way of saying thank you for all they do. RECOGNISE (6–12 July 2026) is a national week celebrating everyone involved in ministry with children, young people and their families. Thank you for the care, encouragement and faith you share so generously. Your ministry helps children and young people to know they are loved by God, and it is a blessing to our churches and communities.

They’ve done it! Congratulations to the #threelions on their win against Mexico. It’s a long time since Mexico lost at the Estadio Azteca. 13 years in fact! They’d previously also never lost a World Cup match there. Commiserations to Mexico who played a great game.

Great to welcome pupils and staff from Bishopthorpe Infant School to Bishopthorpe Palace yesterday. They explored the woods and gardens on a nature trail, and delighted in finding all sorts of plants, wildlife and creepy crawlies! You can read more at: bit.ly/4eUWy57

Pilgrimage is a way of slowing down, enjoying each footstep, enjoying the company of others, and the beauty around us. It's a wonderful thing to do and I encourage you, if you can, to step out this summer on pilgrimage. @churchofengland
