One lesson that we Christians have not learned in the last +2,000 years is that Jesus had no political control over the Roman Empire and he still changed the world. We keep trying to change the world the way the Roman Empire did instead of the way Jesus did.

Every time I see a Gen Z on here refer to the Millennials as the older generation, I crumple to dust. Fellow, Gen Xers, how do we handle this?

@wieling_nathan @Brcremer Sounds like plain old "sinful human nature". We seek power - over fellow humans, over the natural world, over God - without recognising that while we're the reflection/image of God and so carry some of Their characteristics of power over, we aren't "in very nature God".

@Brcremer Sounds like Nietzschean will to power/ubermench kind of thinking. Jesus displayed a life of not seeking power, even when Satan offered him all the power that he could, Jesus refused that earthly power/strength. These people are wolves in the church with that kind of thinking.

As a pastor, I’ve experienced this far too often in my ministry. When the way of Jesus sounds “liberal” or “weak” to us, that’s when we know we have replaced his gospel with our own partisan politics.

My husband is single-handedly putting a new heating and cooling system into our 112-year-old house. Meanwhile, I am moving paragraphs, changing subjective cases, and weighing the use of passive voice. Thank God for people who have knowledge and skills that actually improve life! 😅

@brmorris Isn't a narcissist focused on themselves and their wants/desires/pleasures/satisfactions? How, then, can they glorify God? Every biblical example of glorifying God is not through the power and pomp of earthly/human glory, but in service to others (humbling self).

Is it possible to be a Narcissist Pastor AND “Glorify God” ?

@DaveMilbo Gardening. Making human connection with people, connection that isn't focused around the state of the world. Cooking. Basically: "making" rather than "unmaking" which is what the news of the world seems to be doing everywhere.

Real talk, what sorts of things to you do to balance out the gloom, doom depression that comes with paying attention to the state of world around you? (And you are paying attention to it to some degree just by virtue of being here; it's broken af, clearly)

Was genuinely SHOCKED when I got around to reading all those prophets we skipped over in my proudly hyper Bible literate childhood church and discovered they’re all basically saying “God is big mad at how you’re treating the poor and immigrants.”

@JarranSainsbury I mean, this is the same root of the "women can't run marathons" and "I could score a point against Serena Williams" and "I could overpower any woman" dialog all over the intarwebs. Many men seem terrified of merely being equal to a woman, never mind inferior.

I have a theory about why so many men rage against women who attend seminary or read theological books that weren’t approved by their husband: They’re insecure and they can’t bear to be inferior to women in any way. They’re also lazy and would rather not spend the time studying and reading to match or catch up to where a female seminarian would be. Any man who’s secure in his own faith and masculinity would not only be fine with women attending seminary, they would actually encourage it. It’s an undeniable net positive for every Christian to have a theological education if they desire it. Only weak and petty men want to hold back their sisters in Christ.
