@wpetty19 @bonhoefferchild Sorry for your loss of Casinos! I’m guessing ‘sovereign’ goes when the white man says it does I don’t think they had much of a choice where they were reserved by people they never invited to live on their land v much like the South Natives who didn’t invite the Spanish

@Cephas535 @bonhoefferchild Reservations are sovereign. They are designed so the native Americans live under their own government. That is why reservations can build casinos in areas no one else can.

@Cephas535 @bonhoefferchild When was the last time an American Indian tribe went to war with another tribe? They now have peace after millennia of war. There lands were invaded and they lost.

@Bbmorg As much of a mystery as why so many "liberal" folks are so positively enthusiastic about the murderous dictator Netanyahu. Stupid clearly

I get that Americans are entitled to take a view on their involvement in any war but it is a mystery that so many MAGA folks are so positively enthusiastic about the murderous dictator Putin. Money or just stupid?

@chuckdegroat Absolutely! What if we are defined as beloved children as opposed to sinners That ‘gospel’ has ruined a lot of lives & churches We are defined by who we are NOT what we do! It’s a revelation I have been discovering over the last 10 yrs or so

I grew up in a tradition which I was defined by my sin. It seemed from everything I heard that this was core to who I was. They called it “disorder.” When I ended up in therapy years later, I was also labeled with a disorder. But what if God sees us in our hidden wholeness?

@wpetty19 @bonhoefferchild Nope Europe is not known for its peace! I’m thinking Greece is the oldest democracy but ( check notes) it’s not! It is the US - sorry I still think that ppl who are native to the land r entitled to feel invaded by non native ppl which is American history

@Cephas535 @bonhoefferchild What are you talking about? People from all over Europe were settling the Americas. Not just the UK. No the UK was a monarchy during this period. Why is it ok for native Americans to go to war with each other but it is bad when Europeans do it? Because Europeans brought peace?

If you read the Bible & don’t know God loves you w/ the greatest love, the words will sound like hell. You’re going to see yourself cast out of the garden. Marked for death. A random name in a list of names. Left off the boat as the flood rises. But that’s not the story.

You want a sign that God is real, but “real” isn’t going to satisfy you. What difference does it make if God is real but God doesn’t care about you? This isn’t the sign you’re looking for. It’s not the one you need.

@DPCassidyTKC Totally agree but not all people call them ….The Great In parts of central Asia Alexander is known as the Devil obviously because he killed a lot of people and destroyed cultures It’s only the Western historians that name him great

No historian or philosopher I know of ever referred to Jesus as 'the Great'. I read of Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, Charles the Great, Alexander the Great... never Jesus the Great. Jesus is not 'a Great'. Jesus stands alone and unique. He's not admired but worshipped.

@bonhoefferchild You are wrong. America was founded on a creed. It has lasted longer than any other democracy. The government was designed for a Christian people. The government is supposed to serve man while man serves God.

@jncatron @AlistairMay @LauraRbnsn But you’re still asking children/yp’s to read the elite Cx text in a language which no one uses today What is it about the AV that makes it so special I do think some Cx panic about letting go of the AV it’s actually been my experience I live in N Ireland!!

No one is scared, friend. Calm down. The discussion here, as I would frame it, is between teaching an epochal work of literature - which I think is the correct way to approach it in a secular, secondary context - and a comparatively irrelevant modernization. If we were instead discussing theological education in seminaries, my preference would be completely different.

You know, the thing that bums me out the most about the Oklahoma SSI saying there have to be Bibles in classrooms: The Bible is a religious classic. Having them available for kids to read is a great idea. But most kids can’t read a KJV. But that’s the one they have to have

@LauraRbnsn He’s asking them to read Shakespeare- it’s ridiculous It also offends me because it implies that Christianity is stuck in the 1600’s - which in some churches might be the case- but to also have a political/ nationalist- document attached- is using Gods word for political ends!!!

They aren’t thinking about kids reading the Bible at all. It’s purely to give Trump some cash and he knows that hiding behind the Bible means Christians won’t notice.

Another rendering might be “During the beginning, when God creates the heavens and the earth…” Anyhow, all this to say that translation is challenging, especially when those who read/write the original language debate among themselves about the meanings of their own words! 4/4

I mentioned before that the pool of Genesis is so deep we can’t even get past the first word. What we translate as “IN the beginning” is a Hebrew word that is grammatically broken. The structure of “Bereishit” requires a follower-word. Like “in the beginning of something.” 1/
