Medicare doesn't cover long term care. Nobody told him that. He died at 71. house sold and pension gone. His wife of 48 years is in studio apartment filling for Medicaid. This is the retirement they sold him.

Dogs are the best pet to own for your health. They make you go outside to take walks. They provide companionship. They make you laugh and give you affection. There are several studies showing owning a dog prevents dementia and other age related diseases. The best pet for your health has to be a dog.
