Preventive intelligence works when it is embedded at the point of care. In a new whitepaper, we examined how Counterpart Assistant supports flu prevention across Clover Health’s Medicare Advantage population. Key findings: - Patients were 1.5x+ more likely to receive a flu vaccination when their provider engaged with CA insights, and had fewer flu-related acute care events. - COPD and CHF patients attributed to a CA PCP experienced 18-22% fewer flu-related acute care encounters compared to the Non-CA cohort. Super, super exciting news that Clover’s 4.94 HEDIS clinical quality score in the Stars measure for 2023 measurement year ranked #1 amongst all Medicare Advantage plans nationally on the core HEDIS measures. Truly OUTSTANDING accomplishment by the Clover Team. It is very exciting to see the power of Clover Assistant for our members’ physicians paired with care at the home for those members that can be aided by it. When we started Clover over 10 years ago, we had a truly remedial knowledge of Medicare Advantage, and in many ways our best assets were naivete and a determination to achieve our mission. We have come a long, long way since those early chaotic days. It’s beyond impressive to see Clover achieve a #1 ranking in the USA. Huge congratulations to the Clover Team on achieving a 4.0 Star rating for its flagship PPO plan. While 4.0 Stars has historically been considered a standard rating for many successful MA organizations, this is a special achievement for Clover given the highly contrarian approach we have taken when building our MA platform coupled with the fact that some of the large MA organizations have fallen below the 4.0 Star rating. To date, the standard MA playbook has been a narrow, curated network while being overly clever with plan design to achieve a favorable demographic mix. While Star ratings are an important evaluation tool for the CMS, the way they are calculated has unintentionally allowed many MA organizations that have followed that same playbook to fairly easily achieve 4.0 stars. With that said, I’m hopeful about the continued changes to the underlying Star ratings calculations that benefit organizations focused on a diverse membership base. Clover’s founding mission is “Improve Every Life”. While in stark contrast to the approach of more typical MA plans, it was deeply intuitive to us since our founding to create an offering for current and prospective MA beneficiaries that indexes on maximal physician choice, low costs, and embracing a highly diverse demographic mix. Clover consistently has maintained a core plan where cost sharing on primary care for in network and out of network is $0, and accompanied by very low cost sharing on specialists. Routine industry chatter was that this would not be sustainable and eventually Clover would have to revert back to a more traditional approach in order to succeed. What has happened instead is that those same industry participants are now actively rolling back their own PPO offerings and retrenching back to their tired, friction-filled, access restricted approaches. Simply put, this is not good for consumers. It has always been our goal to offer maximal choice, lower costs, and use software to drive great care across a wider set of physicians. For the star rating to now reflect this is an outstanding accomplishment for Clover. I couldn’t be more proud. Great things can happen when you build to drive consumer value. When forging a new path, there will inevitably be bumps along the way. However, the payoff when you reach that destination is all the more significant, especially when the consumer is the biggest winner. When we were a private company, I would send an update quarterly to investors.
