In rural Louisiana in the '40s and '50s, the accordion became a cherished possession, only surpassed by the tractor. The accordion represented joy in their lives, and the tractor made it possible to have more time to pursue this joy. —Marc Savoy @ulpress buff.ly/3AFjUra

Miranda Heaner is a first-year MA student in French with the Department of Modern Languages. Her research topics include Mardi Gras traditions and Schwäbish-alemannische Fastnacht celebrations in Switzerland, the sociolinguistics of code-switching, and traditional Cajun music.

Really excited to announce that my next book, Make Some Wretched Fool to Pay: Stories will be published by @ulpress. It’s a perfect home for these stories that are set in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. So thrilled to have the book out in the world in 2023!

My third short story collection came out a year ago. I had to cancel all in-person events because of Covid, so I didn’t get to spread the word as far and wide as I’d hoped, but I’m still proud of this weird book.
