Amazon may not be perfect but Bezos is right to say "there are companies who'll work hard to charge as much as possible and those who'll work hard to charge as little as possible" Energy is dominated by the former, but needs more companies to be the latter.

We’ve mapped the mansion tax. You can see who's paying - which constituency, which postcode - and how many "mansions" are near you. Full interactive map here 👇

@gideonrachman Our universities lose money on many courses at domestic fee rates. EU students should pay same as other third countries such as USA, Australia.

University is free in: Brazil Czech Republic Finland France Germany Greece Iceland Luxembourg Norway Slovenia Sweden Scotland But in England we have to pay £9,250 in fees, not even covering living costs + interest?

On the other hand the web has democratised such research/analysis, and the occasional gem surfaces such as this article /4

The Prime Minister has rightly warned that “this is a once-in-a-generation moment for the security of Europe”. But stepping up to this historic task will take more than spending 2.5% of GDP on defence.   To secure democracy, Britain and Europe need to increase the size of their armed forces, grow high-tech firms, get millions more into reserve forces, reduce welfare dependency, transform their public sectors, and make pensions sustainable.

@ThreshedThought Leaving one wondering, astoundingly, whether NATO might be stronger without the USA?...

What became obvious at the Munch Security Conference last weekend was that European leaders now felt that Article 5 - the collective defence obligation in the NATO treaty - was in sufficient doubt that it could no longer be trusted.

@AlanJLSmith The basics are percentages and the power of compounding. Pretty much every thing else is jargon which the government will change soon enough, again and again. Teaching people about PEPs, endowment mortgages et al. would have been a big waste of time.

My son is revising for his GCSEs during half term. He’s a smart kid, but I just had a chat about inflation, investing, borrowing and debt. He knows little about those subjects. When will schools educate children on the basics of personal finance?

This is one of the worst populist arguments I have ever heard.... really playing on man-on-street ignorance about how inflation works.
