Clarified as universal in terms of all children but not free universally. Those on lowest income will be free and then will be tapered based on income. Doesn’t affect existing entitlement.
@GinaDavidson@ginadavidsonlbc

Says if re-elected will extend free childcare from 9 months old to end of primary 52 weeks a year. Will cost over £0.5bn and be a “brand new childcare system” Seems to be extension of 6 pilot schemes Humza Yousaf launched when FM.

@ginadavidsonlbc A new system without consulting the pvi sector will never work. Issues with 1140hrs still not resolved 7 yrs in…lessons not learned..it’s not free it’s funded by the taxpayer. Nothing is free. @2020Together

@theSNP @haughey_clare Who’s paying? Are you working with the PVI sector to keep them onside? Or is this an example of a hollow headline to grab votes and destroy family business?

Parents across Scotland have told us they need more support. The working day does not stop at 3pm. A re-elected SNP Government will extend childcare from 9 months old to the end of primary school, 52 weeks a year. Make it #BothVotesSNP on May 7 for a Scottish Government on your side. #SNP26

In some ways perhaps you have to feel sorry for these people. They’re pouring their efforts into looking like they’re doing something about an issue they cant solve from within their echo chambers. Analysing attendance data and discussing trends, hoping to find solutions. ...

Last week, schools from 13 local authorities came together for the ‘Improving Attendance: Quality Improvement Programme’. Participants spent time analysing their attendance data, identifying trends & patterns to inform improvement planning. 👉 education.gov.scot/resources/impr…

@GiveTimeScot It’s ‘talking about us without us’ it’s a common theme throughout scottish public life. Policy gonks seem to know better than those experiencing things first hand. It’s a frustratingly strange way to operate 🤷🏻‍♂️ and think solutions will present themselves

Sherry Arnstein explained this very well in their Ladder of Participation (1969) where participation isn’t just about being included in conversations and decisions it’s about who has power to shape decisions. At the bottom of the ladder, parents are informed or manipulated.

@suzannezeedyk @UpstartScot Well said @suzannezeedyk the issue is more complex and nuanced which needs better understanding by policy makers. We need £ support, a kindergarten approach and an early years workforce that is appreciated and rewarded appropriately. Politicos need to listen to us on the ground

This is because schools aren't ready for children. Especially not children born in the pandemic. Curiosity from the grown-ups matters so so much right now. We need a kindergarten stage. @UpstartScot
Stephen Morgan MP@StephenMorganMP

It’s simply not good enough that almost a third of children aren’t school-ready at age 5. This government is determined to change that because children growing up in our country deserve the best start in life – nothing less👇🏻 theguardian.com/education/2025…

Our members are extremely concerned @CareInspect @EducationScot @ELCScotGov! The plan is questionable, why not share the document & then professional discussion? Is this another example of being done to again? @NatalieDon_ @earlyyearsscot @NdnaScotland

@janieamcmanus @irvinejax will the sector have access to the new Shared Inspection Framework ahead of the upcoming engagement sessions? It would be helpful to review it in advance. Thanks! #EarlyYears #EducationScotland #ScottishGovernment

@2020Together @SSSCnews @NatalieDon_ @ELCScotGov The pay gap of £4ph (cosla pay deal £16ph for staff vs RLW £12 ph for PVI) isn’t closing, membership fees paid for LA staff as part of the pay deal widens the gap to a chasm. #2tiercare rather than address the elephant pvi being asked for cost data again.More hoops to justify pvi

@suzannezeedyk Thank u @suzannezeedyk. Our sector need 2 hear this from influencers like you, and our politicians need to listen to what u say by backing the whole sector by levelling the £4ph pay gap between LA & PVI, fund each child the same, whilst valuing staff equally. #equalpay4equalplay

To every early years staff member out there: Your sector is the most influential one in the country. Alongside parents, you shape childrn's brains & stress systms more than anyone else in their lives. Lots of ppl won't know how vitally important you are. So I'm saying: Thank you.

@GiveTimeScot @KateJohnston3 @UniStrathclyde @Strath_FAI Spot on again guys. I shared this research with my daughter’s year group parents when she was placed in a composite P1/2 class 2yrs ago. @GiveTimeScot Have they just given grounds for a legal challenge? Seems to be a peculiar hill for them open up rather than to read the room and act in the best interests of their families. Trying to save a shilling when it will cost them many pounds, their credibility and future voters🤷🏻‍♂️

The latest from North Lanarkshire Council is UNCRC does not apply to School Transport issues because the Education Scotland Act 1980 is an Act of UK Parliament so UNCRC does not apply! So there you have it in plain sight. It's not about the best interests of a child at all ...
Give Them Time@GiveTimeScot

@BrianMcleish The problem is that whether parents use the Community Empowerment Act, Parent Involvement Act or now UNCRC Act - the LA misrepresents what they are doing in terms of engagement and nearly always say they have ticked the consultation box.

@CareInspect @EducationScot @ELCScotGov this is exactly what is required in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. The current system is not fit for purpose and with new joint framework the future looks bleaker. Maybe time for a Care Inspectorate Big Conversation group to be established. #Echobox=1725352607-2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nurseryworld.co.uk/content/news/o…

As more and more councils set out their plans to offer additional childcare for private fees it provides clear evidence that @scotgov hv given PVIs direct competitors the power to set our rates and restrict our income #anticompetitive this must surely be illegal @NatalieDon_ ???

@suzannezeedyk It's amazing how many people question and challenge a parents decision when it's laid out in law. Hoping through time that less people will question this legal right that parents have.

I had a conversation this week with a grandad whose granddaughter was deferred until she was 5 - this year. The mum stuck to her guns, despite other family members being vocally uncomfortable with the choice. These last few weeks have shown the wisdom of that mum. @GiveTimeScot

@fionalarkin13 @UpstartScot Hi @fionalarkin13 if the child turns 4yrs old in Nov 2024, this means the child will be 4yrs old on the first day of the new school term in Aug 2025. This child can either start then or defer to August 2026.
