Clarified as universal in terms of all children but not free universally. Those on lowest income will be free and then will be tapered based on income. Doesn’t affect existing entitlement.

@ginadavidsonlbc A new system without consulting the pvi sector will never work. Issues with 1140hrs still not resolved 7 yrs in…lessons not learned..it’s not free it’s funded by the taxpayer. Nothing is free. @2020Together

Sherry Arnstein explained this very well in their Ladder of Participation (1969) where participation isn’t just about being included in conversations and decisions it’s about who has power to shape decisions. At the bottom of the ladder, parents are informed or manipulated.

We need £ support, a kindergarten approach and an early years workforce that is appreciated and rewarded appropriately. Politicos need to listen to us on the ground

This is because schools aren't ready for children. Especially not children born in the pandemic. Curiosity from the grown-ups matters so so much right now. We need a kindergarten stage. @UpstartScot

She was a deferral and was in the same class as kids born the same yr she was. The findings of the research held true, giving parents comfort

@GiveTimeScot Have they just given grounds for a legal challenge? Seems to be a peculiar hill for them open up rather than to read the room and act in the best interests of their families. Trying to save a shilling when it will cost them many pounds, their credibility and future voters🤷🏻‍♂️

The latest from North Lanarkshire Council is UNCRC does not apply to School Transport issues because the Education Scotland Act 1980 is an Act of UK Parliament so UNCRC does not apply! So there you have it in plain sight. It's not about the best interests of a child at all ...

@BrianMcleish The problem is that whether parents use the Community Empowerment Act, Parent Involvement Act or now UNCRC Act - the LA misrepresents what they are doing in terms of engagement and nearly always say they have ticked the consultation box.

Confident, caring, articulate, engaged & interested. @GiveTimeScot u had a hand in this. U gave me the best advice 4 which I’m truly grateful

I had a conversation this week with a grandad whose granddaughter was deferred until she was 5 - this year. The mum stuck to her guns, despite other family members being vocally uncomfortable with the choice. These last few weeks have shown the wisdom of that mum. @GiveTimeScot

@fionalarkin13 @UpstartScot Hi @fionalarkin13 if the child turns 4yrs old in Nov 2024, this means the child will be 4yrs old on the first day of the new school term in Aug 2025. This child can either start then or defer to August 2026.
