Clarified as universal in terms of all children but not free universally. Those on lowest income will be free and then will be tapered based on income. Doesn’t affect existing entitlement.

Says if re-elected will extend free childcare from 9 months old to end of primary 52 weeks a year. Will cost over £0.5bn and be a “brand new childcare system” Seems to be extension of 6 pilot schemes Humza Yousaf launched when FM.

Sherry Arnstein explained this very well in their Ladder of Participation (1969) where participation isn’t just about being included in conversations and decisions it’s about who has power to shape decisions. At the bottom of the ladder, parents are informed or manipulated.

We need £ support, a kindergarten approach and an early years workforce that is appreciated and rewarded appropriately. Politicos need to listen to us on the ground

She was a deferral and was in the same class as kids born the same yr she was. The findings of the research held true, giving parents comfort

@GiveTimeScot Have they just given grounds for a legal challenge? Seems to be a peculiar hill for them open up rather than to read the room and act in the best interests of their families. Trying to save a shilling when it will cost them many pounds, their credibility and future voters🤷🏻‍♂️

The latest from North Lanarkshire Council is UNCRC does not apply to School Transport issues because the Education Scotland Act 1980 is an Act of UK Parliament so UNCRC does not apply! So there you have it in plain sight. It's not about the best interests of a child at all ...

@BrianMcleish The problem is that whether parents use the Community Empowerment Act, Parent Involvement Act or now UNCRC Act - the LA misrepresents what they are doing in terms of engagement and nearly always say they have ticked the consultation box.

As more and more councils set out their plans to offer additional childcare for private fees it provides clear evidence that @scotgov hv given PVIs direct competitors the power to set our rates and restrict our income #anticompetitive this must surely be illegal @NatalieDon_ ???
