During Easter 1982 the bacteria that causes most stomach ulcers and can lead to gastric cancer was first discovered. Robin Warren (left) and Barry Marshall (right) tried and failed to grow the organism several times. It was only when the agar plates were left in the incubator over the five-day Easter holiday that numerous colonies of the bacterium developed. It became clear that a new bacterial genus had been isolated, which was eventually named Helicobacter pylori. In 2005, Marshall and Warren were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery: bit.ly/3d9oth5

Today marks one year since Russia’s missile strike on Kryvyi Rih – one of the most horrifying attacks on children since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. On April 4, 2025, Russian forces launched an Iskander-M ballistic missile at a densely populated residential district in the centre of Kryvyi Rih, a major city in the Dnipro region. The strike hit in the early evening, exploding over an area of apartment blocks and private homes – right next to a children’s playground and a park. There were no military targets in the area. Within hours, Russia followed up with drone strikes on the city. 21 people were killed by Russia, including 9 children, and 75 people were injured, among them 12 children. Many victims were on or near the playground when the missile struck. This was terror. Russia deliberately targets homes, parks, and even playgrounds. The international community must not become numb to ongoing Russian crimes. Pressure on Russia must not be reduced, delayed, or softened. It must be increased – through stronger sanctions and greater support for Ukraine’s defence – until Russia is forced to stop its aggression. No child should ever be murdered on a playground.

Russians have used chemical substances against the Ukrainian Armed Forces more than 13,000 times since the start of the large-scale war, — Command of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Reported figures: Approximately 400 incidents were recorded in March 2026 alone. The peak was reached in 2025 – with over 800 incidents per month. The most frequently used chemical weapons are K-51 and RG-Bo gas grenades, as well as homemade devices containing CS and CN. The drops are usually carried out from drones targeting Ukrainian Armed Forces positions to force soldiers to abandon their shelters.

I remember survival school vividly. I did basic and advanced “SERE” training. I lost 7 pounds living in the mountains near Spokane WA and learned I DO NOT want to ever be captured by the enemy. POW training made that clear. I dreamed about it every night for two weeks afterwards.

The @IDF response to my question about the attack on the Pasteur Institute: "The IDF struck a military headquarters of the Iranian terror regime in Tehran, which the regime deliberately constructed near the Pasteur Institute." My follow up: From the videos and images available, we can see that the Institute was destroyed, but not any of the surrounding buildings. Did the IDF miss or mistake its intended target? Also, there are no publicly visible military headquarters near the Institute as far as I can tell. If anyone knows of it, please share.🙏 Their response to my follow up: "We have no further comment."
