Feeling so lucky to be Canadian! My grandpa bought this cabin after WWII. Lucky to have it. The cabins were built along the CN rail. Took my family out fishing this morning and caught this beauty. Let it go to make more baby fish!

@MitoCopper @KirstyDuncanMP My mother called her MP to request that Canada does a better job funding science. I believe we rank 2nd last in all OCED countries and need to do better! And not more funding to train more and more students when their is a need for stable employment in academic labs.

I understand the logic, but players commited to the team and city/country, who show leadership, consistent great play and are well liked by teamates and fans should be kept if possible. Unless the trade is way too good to pass up.

Dreamed that several of my colleagues competed in a large "juggle drinking" tournament (in which competitors raced to finish drinking a glass of beer while juggling). This was way more fun than my usual "Oh no, I'm not wearing a mask" COVID dreams.

@MitoCopper Agreed! After a lengthy celebration, my buddy and I are doubling home on my bicycle. Campus security followed us weaving around until we finally crashed. Me in my suit and Dale on top of me, security rolls up and asks if we are ok: buddy say yes he just got his PHd! They laugh.

This 👇...other than my wedding weekend and the births of our children, my PhD defence day and subsequent celebration are something I will never forget. I too feel terribly for recently minted PhDs wrt the inability to properly celebrate their achievement.

Just chaired a thesis exam - student did a great job over zoom and passed well. But I feel so sorry for the student at the end - what a weird deflating feeling to close your zoom window and have no happy celebration with supervisor and labmates!

@tfkahan Thanks Tara! No doubt discouraging especially considering I was often filming extra tutorials and practice material, even for other instructors sections, instead of taking care of the boys haha. That said, I feel super bad for the students remote learning cannot be easy.

How did recording my first lecture video of the semester go? Well, my daughter climbed on my lap. Then the dog came to bark at my daughter's sandwich. Then my (topless) husband ran in and stared at the scene from the doorway (in awe? Horror?).

So my wife has many talents! Cake making is one of them. My son Jake turned 9 on the 2nd and Zac turned 12 today. Happy birthday boys. She did a great job (I did the bacon and volcano :)).
