@gorge_lilley @dperkinsed Thanks- was able to get my hands on it after all- just haven’t had a chance to read it yet :)

@CalliCraft @dperkinsed Yes the Archer interview was interesting & she was careful about cold calling. Email me at george.lilley15@gmail.com Calli and I will send the article to you.

Dr. Archer reminds us that great teaching is clear, concise,& consistent, & that exp. inst. helps all Ss thrive. I ❤️ her take on reframing cold calls to warm calls by shifting from putting Ss on the spot to inviting them into safe, supported participation podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/cha…

@CalliCraft I don't think I'm able to share the article with you, but perhaps @gorge_lilley can. I think he shared it with me originally. Perhaps this blog post and the embedded video are helpful: wegrowteachers.com/cognitive-load…

@dperkinsed Thanks for clarifying. I’d love to read the article but only have access to the abstract. Are you able to share it with me? I believe I’m with you on EI being used in certain circumstances such as if its new learning or the student is struggling which is consistent with the IH
English

@CalliCraft I was referring more to the use of explicit instruction and whether it's always best to use it. I believe EI is important and should be utilized in many cases, but there are instances when it may be more effective to employ alternative approaches. psycnet.apa.org/record/2015-57…

@dperkinsed I think one of the main differences described by these two approaches would be giving opportunity to discuss with a peer first, which could be particularly helpful for someone more anxious to speak.2/2
English

@dperkinsed Great point. My understanding is that cold calling has solid research support for increasing engagement, but that it works best in a safe and trusting context- reframing it as a warm call helps bring this to the forefront. 1/2

How does 'defronting' the classroom 'rebuild student trust'? Do students not trust teachers who stand in front of them?

Really interesting slide from @pgliljedahl and @TheMathGuru at #NCSM25.

Do parents know that this is the nonsense that teachers are being fed at teachers’ conferences? There is absolutely no way any district should be spending money on programs that promote such obvious snake oil. Great way to ensure kids DON’T succeed in math. ⬇️

There was a question on another platform today about research related to minutes of instruction and age of students. (I hear a lot of misconceptions about this.)
Please see reply from @HollyLanePhD ⬇️

Learning breaks down in 3️⃣ ways, and students need different supports to help. Practice is ONE way to help, but it's not always what's needed. 🤸
Expert Matt Burns explains this in our latest podcast episode.
