One of the things you must realize with this whole "RW Movie" discourse is that Gen X is pretty much the last generation to ever watch movies. And I mean watch movies and TV shows as their main source of electronic entertainment.
Think of it.
Millennials grew up as gamers.
You guys spent all your time playing Halo, Call of Duty, and whatnot on the computer or console. Millennials probably have only ever watched like a dozen movies in their whole life other than Shrek, Cars, Toy Story and the Star Wars Prequels.
Not so much Gen X.
Of course we had NES and Atari but that was usually hooked up to the only TV in the house. Maybe you got to play it one or two hours a day and that was it.
Why?
Because your folks and grandparents also wanted to watch Monday Night Football, Simon & Simon, The Lawrence Welk Show, professional wrestling, and the 8 o'clock movie on the only color television set in the household.
By the time I got to high school I had watched thousands of different motion pictures from the 1930s to the (then) present. My experience is not unusual. Gen X is notorious for simply dropping references to old movies and TV shows. It's what we do. Yes we are that annoying.
Meanwhile I'll talk to Millennials who will make astonishing statements like "I just watched Shane (1953) for the first time last night and it was great".
And they're 39 years old and I'm like "Yeah, I watched Shane when I was 8 and I didn't need to Google that it was made in 1953" but I'm usually polite enough to only say this sort of thing in my head and not out loud like a dick and instead I nod solemnly when my Millennial friend gushes over Alan Ladd's performance, and the pacing, and Jack Palance's performance as the villain and yada yada.
Millennials are sort of like a lost tribe in the Amazon who have discovered a cigarette lighter dropped by a tourist when they finally watch a film that was made before 1997. It's wonderful to watch but you have to be patient so they don't burn down the whole rainforest with their enthusiasm.
As for Zoomers, they don't watch movies or play video games and only experience life through memes and TikTok videos telling them what to think.
Thank you for reading my very serious and culturally important shitpoasts.
(Give me moneys so I can do more of these Shitpoasts because I should be paid lots of moneys by RW billionaires for talking about old movies.)
