when i read your work, i'm attuned to ANY possible hurdle i imagine from an acquiring editor/ agent. i have seen hundreds of rejections and passes from all corners of publishing and i try to envision every last roadblock. so i am pretty forthright-- bc i WANT you to get a deal :)

if anyone has ever gotten editorial notes from me you understand why my edits always take longer than i anticipate lol

i tend to be as truthful as i can when giving editorial comments based on experience of hearing from hundreds of editors on what are roadblocks for them
but then i feel badly for giving feedback and add happy faces so the author doesn't think i don't appreciate their writing

I started querying in 2023. In 2024 I cried on vacation every night because I didn't want to query anymore but couldn't convince myself to stop. That book is being published this year, and I'm ✨ vague ✨ with another. I was terrified to query again, but I'm glad I did.

@rachkmc I wanted to write novels. Had so many stories. Became a print and radio journalist for decades. Now head the member service org for BC veterinarians. Finished one novel and working on second. Still searching for agent. It will happen I know. I cannot not write fiction.

@CoreyTheWriter I always wanted to get married. But I'm over 40 and socially awkward so that ship sailed. But the solo travel is amazing. And the amazing friend group is amazing. Too old for marriage but love love love living independently. And I work my dream job. Always wanted to write books
