the best thing you can do is turn off all the publishing news. stop reading the doom and gloom articles. stop mega-searching and scanning to try and compare your experience to bad news on the internet and focus on what you can control: your query package. your manuscript.

if you've never gotten line edits before from a professional, the tone can be startling. it's often abrupt and directional MERELY because they are so focused on the integrity and structure of the document. a good line editor is not about praising you; but helping you :)

@rachkmc Now, in my mind, I feel you are talking to me and no one should dissuade this belief.

when i read your work, i'm attuned to ANY possible hurdle i imagine from an acquiring editor/ agent. i have seen hundreds of rejections and passes from all corners of publishing and i try to envision every last roadblock. so i am pretty forthright-- bc i WANT you to get a deal :)

i tend to be as truthful as i can when giving editorial comments based on experience of hearing from hundreds of editors on what are roadblocks for them but then i feel badly for giving feedback and add happy faces so the author doesn't think i don't appreciate their writing

Things are moving more quickly than I expected so I have some news to share: I’ve decided to part ways with P.S. Literary Agency and today was my last day there. Don’t worry, I’m still agenting (this industry is stuck with me, truly) and I will have news soon, hang tight! 👀

it's my birthday and i went out to meet ppl and while out i stopped to get bagels and the guy was like "here's a dozen for you!" so free bagels. then, went to get a lemon panettone and the guy said "take another!" so i got a free one maybe all of Toronto knows its my birthday!

I started querying in 2023. In 2024 I cried on vacation every night because I didn't want to query anymore but couldn't convince myself to stop. That book is being published this year, and I'm ✨ vague ✨ with another. I was terrified to query again, but I'm glad I did.
