I use to live there. Stay in White Bear Lake or Stillwater. Maybe even Hudson. Don’t go downtown without security any time of day. Make sure you don’t need gas and bring food with you. Based on my recent reporting trip to Minneapolis (and we were told as much by the locals), it is unsafe for people who are white and not known to key people in the area to be in certain neighborhoods or stores. If you are not accompanied by a known local, you may be profiled, followed/tracked, approached and questioned by people who will demand answers but not tell you who they are, told you "don't belong," told to leave, and/or made to feel threatened. I'm talking about peacefully going to public places in an open society. I was surprised, too.
