I’ve always kept it 💯 with the people of District 22. They know what I’m about, and they gave me an overwhelming mandate to shift our budgetary priorities away from cops and cages, toward care and community. The FY23 budget does not do that. My speech explaining my No vote👇🏽

Community & family members of those detained by ICE are taking the streets of Hackensack, NJ to demand freedom for their loved ones. BCJ was the last jail to hold an ICE contract in NJ. #ICEOutOfNJ #FueraMigra

@ccf_ny A6 Easy access to college-in-prison significantly boosts job prospects and earning potential after serving time. Often, the quick path back to prison is due to lack of employment or productive work. #TurnOnTheTapNY #AFR319

@ccf_ny A5 Gender constructs hurt incarcerated women because already inadequate supports for "male" populations further dampens scope for rehabilitation and other types of growth. #TurnOnTheTAPNY #AFR319 @AfricanaJJ

Programs that are offered within NYS jails are constructed and geared toward the majority of the incarcerated population: men. This leads back to the trend of women going unheard/ disregarded when it comes to their needs and desires when it comes to the criminal justice systems.

@ccf_ny A3 One misconception about women in prison is that they have mostly committed violent crimes.

Activists blockaded Hudson County Jail Saturday morning to demand ICE release the people detained in the facility, and not transfer them out of state, as the jail's ICE contract ends in November. [Thread] #ReleasesNotTransfers #AbolishICE #CloseTheCamps

🧵 I want to share more about what I witnessed at Rikers Island yesterday. We broke into groups to inspect different parts of the sprawling facility. I spent several hours at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center.
Emily Gallagher@EmilyAssembly

I just returned from Rikers Island where a group of elected officials exercised our legal right to inspect correctional facilities. What I witnessed was a humanitarian crisis. A horror house of abuse and neglect. I'll share more soon but for now my message is simple: decarcerate.
