THE CALABRIAN BOY WHO WANTS TO DEPORT AMERICA Meet Gregory Kent Bovino. A former Border Patrol commander. A CPAC hero. A man who stepped onto the stage of the country’s largest conservative conference last week and shouted: “Deport them all! One hundred million!” The crowd applauded. One hundred million—that’s a third of the U.S. population. There are about 14 million undocumented immigrants in the country. Which means the remaining 86 million are citizens. Just not the “right” kind of citizens. Not the right color. Not the right last name. Now let’s look at the hero’s own name: Bovino. Italian. Because his great-grandparents came from Calabria to Pennsylvania in 1909. Immigrants. No language. No money. They received citizenship only in 1927—after 18 years. The very same “dirty Italians” that early 20th-century America placed just above Black people in its racial hierarchy. The same people who were lynched in New Orleans. The same people called “wop”—Without Papers. Without. Papers. The great-grandson of people without papers now wants to deport 100 million. But that’s not all. Bovino also claims Cherokee roots, yet is not registered in any tribe. In other words, a descendant of immigrants who has appropriated the identity of a people whose land was taken by people like his own ancestors. Now to his track record: ▪️ Operation “Return to Sender” in California — ruled illegal by a federal judge ▪️ Operation in Minneapolis — resulted in the deaths of two people, Alex Pretty and Rene Good ▪️ After dismissal — seized control of three federal social media accounts with an audience of 850,000 and refused to return them ▪️ Even Trump called him “a pretty strange guy” and distanced himself And after all that—ovations at CPAC. “One hundred million!” The hall roars. Do you know what this is? A textbook portrait of a minor functionary under a major tyrant. He is not independent. He is a function. His role is to be more radical than the boss, so the boss appears moderate by comparison. Trump says “deportations”—Bovino screams “ONE HUNDRED MILLION!” Trump distances himself—Bovino wags his tail even harder. He’s a dog that got kicked and now bites passersby—just to earn his place back at the master’s heel. But the most frightening part is not him. He’s a clown. What’s frightening is the crowd that applauds. The conference where “deport a third of the country” is not a scandal, but an opening line. The system where a descendant of Calabrian immigrants—whose family lived 18 years without citizenship, whose great-grandparents were “Without Papers”—is met with applause when calling to strip people of the right to live in the country where they were born. The memplex has devoured the biography. The man erased his own history to become an instrument of someone else’s. P.S. On the CPAC stage, Bovino also said: “If we don’t deport them all, the character of the nation will change forever.” The character of a nation is when a Calabrian boy, whose great-grandparents arrived without documents, stands on stage a century later and shouts: “Out with everyone.” The character of the nation has already changed, Gregory. You are the proof.
