None of my first year music ed undergrads used Chat GPT for their final project essay. I like to believe that’s because they have academic integrity - but also a student told me I have earned a reputation for being a very caring millennial tech human that does not play. 😅😅😅

48 pages, 100 citations + summaries, nearly 20,000 words later - my Phase 2 annotated bibliography is DONE. 💀🎉

Student: “I heard you’re coming into my class on Wednesday!” Me: “Oh really, did the instructor reference me specifically?” Student: “No, he said a special guest was coming in to talk about technology and instantly I knew it had to be you because that’s your thing.” Me: 🥹

Current mood = angry noises at my past self that decided Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was a great idea for Phase 2 of my PhD. About ready to sacrifice my non-existent first born to the Stats God(s). Or perhaps to Stats Satan - that seems more accurate.

Two good things happened today. 1) After 4 rounds of edits and fixes, I have appeased the IRB deities and now have approval to run my first empirical study. 2) I finally am feeling less existential financial dread now that I’ve started gigging for DoorDash on the side.

In the past 48 hours, I’ve read at least four different texts referencing the #Panopticon and social media/computer mediated discourse. I can’t stop looking! (Pun intended.)

@Mr_Rablin Had my first day with two new classes of future music educators! Their energy and excitement about learning a new (non-primary) instrument and taking their first music ed specific class sparks such joy. The future is bright. ❤️
