YES... YES... YES... YES... and YES!!!!
As a father of two young girls who are directly impacted by the current experiment... and as someone deeply involved in technology for over 30 years; I can 100% agree with every... single... word... she said!

@CoinPriceTag @AvaloniaUI Thank you, good to hear someone appreciates the efforts.
English

@DualBrain @AvaloniaUI It would be amazing!!! Love your contributions for VB.
English

Certainly not implying it's of *production quality* at this point, but passing along that @AvaloniaUI templates for #visualbasic now available in source form at github.com/CommunityVB/Te… ; will will publish as nuget packages after some time for testing and (hopefully) feedback.
English

So, what are your feelings about some teams at Microsoft ditching C# for Rust?

English

@salelele It is a desktop application that (hopefully) will run on Windows and Linux (possibly macOS). No emulator required. And the goal is to reproduce the original as much as possible.
English

@DualBrain Looks so much like a replica of the original! Would this work under windows; or from the command line or would we have to install a DosBox or something like that?
English

@ejsmith Don't you know it! (And, yes, there's some GORILLA gaming in the future.)
English

@DualBrain You are a crazy man! I do miss me some QBasic and Gorilla though. 🙂

@chrisjohnson_nz I see some of the comments somewhat "justifying" the *steps backward* due to the technology changing. In the end it's all about driving pixels to the screen, push/pull data from a storage medium and accepting user input. So, really, there isn't any excuse.
English

Yup. It’s weird how the developer productivity and tooling experience has only got worse since then too.
We used to be able to build apps & place buttons exactly where you wanted them without a phd in CSS with drag and drop, hook it up to a DB in a couple of mins.
Now it’s like doing it all in the equivalent of notepad! Insanity.

Are you this old in programming ?
English

@Tyrrrz And if you don't get it right... ye shall be mocked. For what it's worth, this problem doesn't exist in #visualbasic. ;-) #stabilityisafeature
English

You know... you have to give it to a project maintainer that is attempting to educate a group on how there's no interest by a particular community when several from that very community are actively engaged in that very conversation. #visualbasic #dotnet #notdeadyet
English

@richcampbell I've definitely been there... thank you git/@github for the many rescues they've provided over the past recent years for situations just like this. ;-)
English

@grokys @AvaloniaUI @OpenSilverTeam This is great! However, doesn't address the vocal negativity toward #visualbasic by members within the @avaloniaui community. CLR/CLS/CLI is about language diversity and choice; VB developers should not be made to feel bad for their choice because it doesn't match your choice.
English

@AvaloniaUI is a great looking platform; however, it seems to be filled with those that that believe that "#visualbasic is dead". And it's too bad... it's so very close to welcoming us - limited only to what appears to be a people problem. At least the @OpenSilverTeam loves us!
English

@MStrehovsky Yes... yes it is. ;-) Not able to ultimate small file size in comparison; but as a consolation prize... native on Windows and Linux!

English

@MStrehovsky This is AWESOME!!!! stuff! Wonders to self if this is possible using #visualbasic... hmmmmm...
English

For my next trick I'm going to build a 64 MB self-contained game in C# and then shrink it to 1936 bytes in 10 steps. Read all about it in my latest article: migeel.sk/blog/2024/01/0…

English

@MStrehovsky Awesome article. Earlier I commented that I wondered if it was possible to do this sort of stuff in #visualbasic. Why YES... yes you can! Not able to use bflat to get to the smallest size - but my VB version also runs on Linux; at about 2mb. 🤯
