@amanofthesoil Yeah, I thought I'd hate the Strykers when we got them, but I fell in love with them!(outside of fixing them) I knew a guy who reclassed to tracked vehicle mechanic, and he was almost the only guy I spoke to who genuinely enjoyed the work. Different kinds of crazy, I guess!

I never had a problem with tight spaces--and it is very tight inside an Abrams. But I hated the endless maintenance. Our mortar infantry guys rode around in M113s which seemed pretty easy to maintain. And the scouts rode in Bradleys, which I also spent some time on--much easier maintenance than Abrams. My squadron actually lost two tankers killed, one infantryman, and no scouts killed!

@amanofthesoil @Todd_MMiller Respect to the tankers, my recruiter offered it to me, as my mom was horrified that I wanted Infantry(he was trying to sell it to her as "safer"), but I never did well in tight spaces, and had family history of infantrymen.

I was talking more historical " old western" clothing items based on the image. The man is mostly in 19th century garb: fall-front trousers; bib-shirt; neckerchief. The only bits that really survived to common use today would be the hat, boots & holster.

Definitely delusional. I still talk to guys who went multiple times and are convinced it was necessary. I occasionally hear that old cliché, "Better to fight 'em over there than over here." I say nothing, for they are too far gone and have suffered too much.

@amanofthesoil I‘ve worked with OIF & OEF Vets that re-enlisted & volunteered for combat deployments multiple times because they honestly believed they were doing their patriotic duty bringing democracy to the Middle East. I thought they were delusional but I commended them for their idealism!

Today, I decided to leave my church.
I can't sit through another political sermon where the phrase "White Supremacy" is used again and again, and I'm told I'm not doing enough for the LGBTQ+++ crowd.
I want a church that has more crucifixes than rainbow flags and whose bishop doesn't send videos to play about how he protests at whatever the church's politics-du-jour is.
And thus, I am no longer a member of the United Methodist Church.
