One of fellas that came to us from prison a few months ago got a place and is moving out today! Also, the very first fella that graduated from F5 housing back in 2017 is still sober and bought a house in South Carolina with his family. From 2017 to today, lots of people making awesome successful moves.

Today was pretty awesome. I got to have lunch in downtown Sarasota Florida with some amazing people. Let me provide some context of awesomeness. Shortly after I started F5, I was given a book called, The Non Non-Profit. It a complete breakdown of the biggest barriers that face nonprofits, and how to use for-profit mindset with nonprofits hearts. Such as becoming more data driving and purpose driven at the same time. How nonprofits chase money rather than creating value. How they focus on input output numbers rather than long term data and outcomes. Such as Reentry orgs that site how they decrease recidivism with three year stats, but say nothing about how many are in long term recovery, how many got their kids back, how many lead purpose driven lives for their community. What is the real return on investment into these nonprofits? This book questioned everything for me. It help me set the tone and probably make enemies with people who have done things a certain way for a long time. Just last week I heard someone say “F5 is siloed from the rest of us”. My response, “with good reason”. I got to have lunch with the author of that book, Steve Rothschild who founded Twin Cities Rise. Steve was a former executive Vice President at General Mills, was motivated to find a solution to the poverty experienced by many people of color in the Twin Cities. Using a market-driven approach, he sought to assist individuals in finding stable and well-paying employment. He believed that employment and getting people out of poverty would produce better and fast results than anything. He was right and without doing Reentry… he and his team reduced recidivism 50% in inner city Minneapolis. I also got the honor to have the Founder and CEO of Project 180 join for lunch. They are based out of Sarasota, FL. Barbara Richards, MS is the President/CEO and Founder of Project 180. A former Adult Basic Education and GED teacher in the San Francisco County Jail system. You guys know how much I love GED teachers. I Consider Project 180 like a sister nonprofit to F5. We have a mutual donor that made all of this possible today. After lunch I got to go to the local jail and find they have Reentry deputies, that do the same work our care coordinators do at F5. The most amazing thing of the tour is they welcome Medication Assisted Treatment, have a recovery pod, have volunteers teaches that help residents become electricians, horticulturist that teach the basic of gardening, sewing classes, veterans pod, and so much more. I’m ending the day with. Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Cigar. Here is my view tonight. Have a goodnight.

Tonight I got to hang out with the Project180reentry (Sarasota, FL) fellas and participate in their house/recovery meeting. We discussed hope, fears, feelings, goals. We had amazing BBQ sandwiches and all hung out even after the meeting was over. Ian is missing from this picture because he volunteered to take it. We also wanted to make sure to get the palm trees in the back for the fellas in the F5 houses in North Dakota. 😉 #blessed

Here is the real Super Bowl MVPs. Instead of finishing the game they stuck with their commitment to bring an @F5ProjectOrg meeting to the Cass County Jail. They got this picture from one of the ladies that made it during the meeting. Kansas City is Richard Pallay’s fav team too. Missed their win tonight for the ladies.
