This is probably a stupid (and expensive) idea but I’m such a fan of @SquareEnix that I want to attempt to beat every localized game that they’ve made. Luckily this one is fairly short, got my NES and CRT hooked up and ready to go. Here we go, first one the list…
The Thirsty Mage RPG Podcast@TheThirstyMage

Take a trip through the localized history of #SquareEnix in this video series on the King of RPGs. Who received this game with their Nintendo Power subscription? First released as Dragon Quest in 1986, Dragon Warrior was brought over to America in 1989.

Some folks were upset I was going off of a small sample size for TTYD sales. Let's update! It hasn't moved much at about 1.9 mil. Origami King and Mario RPG are both at about 3-3.5 at last count. Too many Mario RPGs? TTYD fans louder than they are numerous? Switch finally dead?

Given the first 3 months of Paper Mario TTYD sales, I unfortunately think I was right to be concerned over Nintendo dumping 3 Mario RPGs in less than 365 days. TTYD needs to double its sales over Christmas to match Mario RPG or Origami King (it won't). Nervous for Brothership.

Great interview with @_atrac17 on @timeextension64 about developing cores for FPGA. In the article, there's mention of a site with information about how to get started in core development. Is that site available? I'd love to try to get into core development.

I don’t like that everyone that there’s something “special” @NVCpodcast sends another host. NVC has a fantastic host in Seth. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Brian, but I feel that they don’t give Seth his place.

@jtsknight92 Agree with you there, the article I linked certainly edited the interview to fit that narrative better. I still believe even in context, that Aonuma believes that having to cater to lore enthusiasts hampers development.

@FilteredGamer Strongly recommend reading the original interview. The article chops up quotes to imply sentiments that don't seem to be present in the full interview.

There we have it folks, a quote from Aonuma that says fans need to understand that Nintendo doesn't really care about Legend of Zelda timelines or lore. "Link goes on an adventure and experiences many things" Just enjoy the ride, there are no timelines gamesradar.com/games/the-lege…

@jtsknight92 To me, he's specifically asking fans not to go through Echoes and Wisdom and point out how it doesn't fit a timeline. If you read between the lines, he's says that trying to maintain the lore is hampering their ability to develop Zelda games.

@FilteredGamer thats.... not what that quote is about. The article writer is combining a statement on being respectful of existing lore, with a second statement on not wanting to limit game design based on conventions.

@FilteredGamer I've been playing and I think I'm around LV50. The DLC downloaded and I clicked Change Episode, but it feels like I have to start the whole game over again. I looked it up and we can transfer our save data, but are we playing the whole game over from the start (if you know)?

@3DSPedia Not yet. I downloaded it though, just finishing up the final boss tonight. I figured out how to beat the Reaper in one hit, so I was spamming my characters to level 99 last night lol.

@thetylerful101 I agree, Sony didn't do enough to make people excited for PS5 Pro. I'm not convinced the Switch 2 is going to "feel" all that much like a new console. It'll certainly be an upgrade, but my prediction is that Switch 2 will feel more like "Switch Pro"

Unfortunately, we're likely gonna have the same conversations again in a few months from now when Nintendo confirms the Switch 2 will start at $499 USD.

@jtsknight92 I mean, I don't want to pay more, but the gaming experience is much better on a PlayStation than on Xbox or Switch. I feel no reason to upgrade from my base PS5, but if I was a new PS5 purchaser, I'd go Pro. A $700 PS5 is a better experience than a $700 PC.

Want it to play discs? That will be nearly $800. You could buy a Switch and a Series X or PS5 for that. PlayStation fans, is this something that you want?

Boy, PlayStation is really hitting you right in the PSSR at $700 for their PS5 Pro (DIGITAL). I feel like the success of Switch and the comparative sales of Series S vs X clearly indicate people want to spend less than $500 on a system let alone $700. At that point you buy a PC.

@dark1x The biggest challenge to developers moving forward will be an over supply of games. I'd love to play Astro Bot, but at $80 plus tax, I'd rather catch up on my backlog and wait for a 50%+ sale. There's so many good games available that paying full price isn't necessary anymore.

I found this to be an astoundingly poor take and one that highlights the challenges developers face. When a subset of consumers only want “AAA cinema” we lose what makes games ‘games’. I’m sad to see this sentiment as this is why the industry is stuck in a tough place these days
CyberApollo@ZephyrionVortex

@dark1x @newame1235 games like Astrobot are just in a different category to industry moving masterpieces like RDR2 and TLOU2. its like giving some small $15,000 car a 9/10 and also scoring a model S (that also costs $15k) a 9/10 and saying they are as good as each other.

@Stupacabra For future reference, don't change countries. I once changed countries to buy a Steam game for a friend in Australia, and it caused all sorts of problems. You can't buy new games until you switch back, and you can only change your country once every 90 days.

I'm firmly in the camp of no Zelda timelines exist. Nintendo just feeds the discourse because it's free marketing.
