@PeterP_1985 @354reason @OrtizYohnny @digitalfoundry Native 4K implies the internal resolution is 3840x2160 without upscaling. That said, upscaling techniques have become good to the point where they can look superior in cases but that’s still different from native.

@354reason @OrtizYohnny @digitalfoundry No, I think native means native as in its rendering internally at 4k and outputting at 4k, no upscaling. More than happy for @dark1x to fact checked and correct if he feels like reading through our convo but I'm done. Have a lovely evening/day 👍

According to recent news EA managed to run Path Tracing on F1 25 in a PS5 Pro with PSSR, apparently at 4k30fps. PS5 Pro is a BEAST!!

@SebAaltonen @SynthPotato Part of the issue is the display type. LCDs at 60hz without strobing look horrible. Good strobing or a CRT at 60hz looks insanely smooth.

@SynthPotato When I bought my first 144Hz 1440p gaming monitor (decade ago), this happened to me too. Stopped playing Overwatch on PS4 because it was just 60Hz. Looked laggy compared to 144Hz on my Pc. Today I am fine with 60Hz in some genres. eSports/racing needs more.

Seriously though why does this happen? Did something in screens change or did we just get too used to 60FPS+ that 30fps looks so laggy now?

@dark1x @idonotexistelol It may look "better" to some people either way but the question is how do the game designers want it too look? Surely there is a certain mood or "look" the artists who made the game had it mind? It certainly is not a game that strives for "realism" so why should the lighting be?

@Salmona1917 @AllConsoleFan So am I and the window is tiny...and even when you maximize it, the quality is horrible. It compresses it to an obscene level, I think. It's enough to give you an idea of what something looks like but not actual detail.

@MannyCalavera12 I picked it because I picked up the new one and was like, shit, I love those classic games. Trying to tie it to a new game in hopes to get more views, really. It's all my choice, though, because I love racers.

@dark1x Just so many games for a DF Retro episode and Screamer just came out. So that’s why. Nothing to do with it being positive coverage. And when DF retro episodes are already so far away from each other it feels like another missed opportunity.

New episode of DF Retro this week! Not sure how many folks are familiar with the originals, but Screamer was amazing back on the PC in the 90s...and the new one is made by that very same studio!
Digital Foundry@digitalfoundry

Screamer is out now on PC, PS5 and Xbox - and it's a great game! In today's DF Retro, you'll see the origins of the franchise back in the mid-90s, the sequels and spin-offs, and how the OG developers have continued to operate in the arcade racer space: youtu.be/wOrsXMftTWI

@MannyCalavera12 Dude, what the hell? Sponsorship? What is with people thinking anything positive is 'sponsored'? I purposely wanted to make this video - I spent two weeks on a video that probably won't do well because I love these games. Isn't that enough?

@dark1x And then this is finally a regular episode and it reeks of sponsorship. Who wanted this as the newest DF retro? The show has fallen HARD

@BikesAndVidya @994_ram Yeah. Having played it pre-release, I absolutely understand how and why someone wouldn’t have loved it. It definitely had a lot of issues, even though I did enjoy it still. Reviews make total sense - they were divisive!

>Han tardado 8 años en hacer un juego desde Destiny 2 >Es multiplayer only >Tiene literalmente 4 mapas >Es el enésimo extraction shooter >Ni siquiera es F2P >"Por qué se quejará la gente"

@VisualFidelity Why the heck are some people slagging off Marathon? It's kind of nuts how good it is and I don't even like extraction shooters. They did a great job and I can't see anything controversial about it thus don't understand the hate. What's up with that?

@dark1x @bogie19th @FunctionScarlet @VisualFidelity It's good for you. And you even admit that it's not something you will play long term. The player base is crumbling, not because it's a great game but because it's a mid game. It's not good, it's not bad.

@TheCartelDel @fcbniine It's a shame as Bluepoint could have done a better job. I've remained disatisfied with the technical work done on Delta - and despite attempts at improving the situation, the console version isn't where I'd like it.

I'm glad someone else is saying this first, so I can reply to it. I have SPECULATED that PlayStation wanted to see if Metal Gear Delta was made well enough to be a success, before switching over to using Virtuous as their remake partners instead of someone like Bluepoint who were likely far more expensive.

Good article. When I visited the Virtuous Shanghai office basically every hallway wall was just dozens of game covers. I never took photos, but this is one I found online gives you the idea. When I asked if those hundreds of titles is every game they told me "half the games we worked on we're not allowed to show". Most games that gamers love are half made in China and Malaysia, and they don't even know it.

@dark1x @btarunr Although DriveClub looked great can someone please explain to me the logic of the camera in 3rd person view in driving games where if it’s raining the rain drops are all over the screen like you’re still in the cockpit? Think Forza does this too
