@TheFizzyMind @digitalfoundry The video is calibrated for 1500 nits but unfortunately YouTube doesn’t seem to tone map properly to lower nit devices so this scene in particular appears bloomed out.

Along with everyone else, we're still waiting for our Crimson Desert retail console codes to unlock - but while you wait, here's @dark1x with a look at the PS5 Pro version running at 4K HDR in quality mode along with gameplay thoughts: youtu.be/QCOFJUG9Q2I

@dark1x @inkblotPrincess Really? I mean it’s not that they don’t do anything. They’re certainly aggressive. But i don’t find the game’s encounter design being particularly interesting

We really are in an epidemic of """action""" games that are allergic to having interesting encounter design. Enemies that solely exist to be sponges that do nothing.

@ToadlyToad Technically, if you were to play this from cartridge in an offline state (unlikely here), it should boot in Switch 1 mode. Obviously if it updates it'll trigger the Switch 2 enhancements.

I think this video does a good job explaining the viewpoints of the team but I wanted to make sure it was clear that I wasn't feeling up to participate yet thus not in the video. I will share my own thoughts soon but my opinions largely mirror what Alex says in this video!

So, over the years, they've released videos of new games and say, "x game runs at locked 60fps on whatever console." In my experience recently with Resident Evil 9, it didn’t run at locked 60fps on the Pro and they claimed they played the entire game and said it ran at locked 60fps except for the city intro. I’ve been a DF viewer since 2014, I love the team a lot but I can't but help finding it more difficult to trust their coverage nowadays.

I'm still really hesitant to trust Digital Foundry going forward because of their initial coverage of DLSS 5, the blind praise was just really bad in my eyes. An apology is one thing but I can't help but feel like my view of Digital Foundry has been tainted long term.

@GameSack @PaulsGamingLive No no, it's not like motion flow on TVs. Frame generation is actually awesome. The reason it's different is that TVs only have access to a finished frame while frame-gen actually ties directly into the engine. It's very artefact free and low latency. I love it.

@PaulsGamingLive @dark1x I don't want fake any-of-that. Fake frames = Motion Flow on TVs. They like that? Man, so glad I only game on console.

@kiryukazuma2788 Lose that emotion and you become a worthless robotic AI drone. Emotion, passion...that's what makes life worth living. The good and the bad. It doesn't always go well but that's for me to control

Final note on DLSS5: Will folks PLEASE stop listening to influencers who have never made a video game in their lives tell you how video games should be made? They may make fun content. They might be fun to watch. But just because they are popular doesn't make them right. I watch a lot of YouTube, and I certainly don't go around telling folks how to make good YouTube videos.

Digital foundry actually said: “Developers will get to see the digital fidelity that they imagined in their heads but couldn’t deliver” this is so horrifically insulting and reeks of that “Fans know better than devs” attitude

@escapedieu @TheRustyDustpan Dude, I hadn't even seen the game in motion two weeks ago. Zero interest. Once I actually played it? It took me by surprise that I enjoyed it so much. That's all there is to it. Or do you only want angry videos and criticism all the time?

@dark1x Do you play in first person? I’ve tried it twice but both in 3rd person and couldn’t get into the combat at all…maybe it was meant to be played in first person

I think Crimson Desert is going to end around low 80s. I'm guessing the kitchen sink approach to gameplay, massive open world with tons to do, and graphics will hold it up... But the possibly overcomplicated combat and unintuitive menu system will hold it back... And based on the reviewer, the narrative will dock it some points as well. It won't be a game for everyone but I have a feeling that the sentiment will be "you got to try this" because it'll feel unique for what it's trying to do.
