Brian Hurley with a new twist on the two-pointer. Surely should get a bonus point for the bounce.

I don’t program Nordics very often. Why? They’re bloody tough. Most athletes aren’t good enough at them to get much out of them & for those that are good at them, they’re brutal on the hammies, so they can’t be doing them all the time. Often, I think there are better options.

VO₂max represents the cardiorespiratory adaptations to exercise. It is a great metric but not the endpoint. In elite sports, we learned this decades ago. Two athletes can have the same VO₂max, yet perform very differently as the differentiator is not the cardiorespiratory capacity but the local metabolic adaptations at the muscle and cellular level which are represented by lactate. That’s why lactate became central. It tells us how well mitochondria handle energy, how efficiently fuel is used, and where metabolic limitations really are. Longevity will follow the same path. VO₂max is a useful global marker, but it’s a proxy. Metabolic health at the cellular level is the real driver of performance, resilience and long-term health. We moved beyond VO₂max in sport. Longevity science will be next.

I enjoyed this informative video. Gives a good window into prepping a county team but some great lessons to be applied at club level too. youtu.be/aWFjzJExmZY?si…

Good primer drill here, check out the rest of the vids also on that series. I got some great ideas from it. For big groups, these type of things are gold to get some great work into teams. youtu.be/TLpkUJuVJ9o?si…

FRC rule enhancements have been excellent. However, the Kick Out Rule needs to be tweaked. There has not been enough clean catches medium/long. Change Kick Out Mark to on or outside 40m arc rather than on or outside 45m. That will help the game i.e. more catches more quick kick passes up to front 3.

"The Primer" Gameday lifting for enhanced performance Getting an edge on gameday is what every team and athlete aims to achieve and the gameday primer can be a powerful addition to a sports performance program to help achieve this. Programming principles: Participating athletes should have high-level training age and be highly technically proficient in the chosen exercise modalities. Stronger athletes may respond more potently to priming activities. Consider a strong psychological component. Allow self-determination. The athlete should be involved in the selection of the priming activities. Choose the training types or the training focus, not the specific exercises. Priming activities should be high intensity. Intensity can be driven with exercises with high force requirements (strength exercises) or high rate of force development requirements (ballistic power/speed exercises). Priming work should be conducted with a high intensity of effort. Measurement and feedback methods such as velocity-monitoring in strength training or jump height & contact time monitoring in plyometric work can help increase intent of effort. Priming work should take place at approx. 5-6 hours before the game. This is likely the most potent stimulus. However, priming sessions conducted 24-32 hours before the game can also have beneficial effects. Priming sessions should be low volume and low metabolic fatigue kept to a minimum. Use long rest periods. If in doubt, use lower volume than planned. Example sessions based on approach (aggressive vs conservative) and available equipment/facility 👇👇 Solid review review from @brjmason here: Excellent, really readable review from @PeterHarrisonAU and @DocHolmberg12 here: Great work from @DrMarkRu55ell and an all star cast showing beneficial non-specific effects of varied morning priming exercise types on afternoon performance.

Players can slip through the cracks, it happens in every setup. I’ve seen it at county and club level and before you know it your key players have barely trained. Here are a few strategies to stay ahead of the chaos and keep your squad together. functionaltraining.ie/the-players-wh…

@irishscnetwork I use them a lot to be honest, weightlifting shoes too, fail to see major drawbacks if done in small doses.

We all know the use of heel lifts or squat wedges can help athletes with poor ankle mobility, but are they used anymore? 🤔

My all-time favorite quote/scripture for S&C coaching is “You can’t be a prophet in your own town.” Parents/Coaches/Athletes rarely think the coach they have is better than the guy down the street or a state away. Their word means more. No matter the results you’ve built.
