Yeah this actually skipped over much of the history of how the Bible got translated into English. Tyndale was late to the party. There was several different English translations long before Tyndale who was killed by Protestants and not for translating. His mistranslation with over 2000 mistranslations and incorrect changes made was no where near the first English Bible. It was in English since the early 700s. There was also already dozens of other common tongue translations. And lay Christians were always allowed to read it. Most didn’t own one with the printing press not yet being invented but there was literally public Bibles available to all in every Catholic Church.
