We've all been there. Everyone deserves to get from A to B in peace. Liberal Democrats are calling for change in the law to explicitly ban playing music and videos out loud from a phone on public transport in England, with those who breach the ban facing fines of up to £1,000.

They’re saying the quiet part out loud, now: the High Street’s for passing through on your way to somewhere else, it’s not a destination. This was exactly our concern and criticism all along.

We forced an answer by asking a question at Council last night. But the High Street desperately needs a long term plan for sustained success. We’ve been waiting for years.

Cllr Colin Ferguson brought local families’ petition regarding Gosforth Academy’s admission procedures to Council tonight. Colin had a meeting with the MAT arranged before the Summer break, which was postponed, and he is seeking to rearrange it now that term has started again.

Great to be at the Mela yesterday with the wee man. Exhibition Park was heaving. It was so good to see that recent weeks’ riots weren’t deterring anyone from attending!

No clarity at all on what will happen to Gosforth High Street in less than a month’s time. There is no plan, no strategic vision, no will to see our High Street thrive from this Labour administration.

Last night at full council meeting the Labour Party voted down our motion to fix pavements across the city. Odd.

Local Tory votes to write to his own government about the iniquity of the two child benefit cap. Even they know it’s indefensible!

Newcastle Labour have refused to accept, tonight, that the accident data for Gosforth High Street, since the introduction of the bus lanes, is a concern. We do not agree.

We are aware of a power cut affecting the West side of the ward, around Kenton Road and surrounding streets. Northern Powergrid are aware and we understand they are advising residents that power will be restored by 10:00.

We’re glad the tennis courts have been refurbished. We understand the conditions attached to the funding. The staff at Urban Green are doing the best they can, but @NewcastleLibDem remain of the view that our parks should always have remained in public control.

We’re trying to get interested parties locally (e.g. the Eagles) to work with Urban Green to do a parallel piece of work on the basketball courts, so we can have courts we can all be proud of. Free-to-play is an absolutely critical component of this.

We believe all the courts should be for general use, whether tennis or basketball, and of proper serviceable standards. Urban Green need to do more to secure parallel funding for the basketball courts to that secured from the LTA for the tennis courts. 1/
