@space4gosforth Have there been any plans put out for the other end of Queen Victoria Road yet? It's been over a year since the original works and it still feels very temporary.

@PhyllBuc This looks sensible from a network planning p.o.v. given potential onward links to Blackett St / The Gate. St Thomas St is already 2-way, and relatively quiet thanks to the bus gate, but dumps you on Percy Street with nowhere to go and no potential onward route.

@ManorParkLD @NewcastleCC Definitely it would be good to have a monitor at Regent Centre where the buses stop. The rest of the Great North Road is fairly open and pollution will likely be lower (relatively) as it will dissipate more quickly.

We haven't been informed of this and we are seeking further clarification. We are conscious of the AQ hotspot at this location but we are unclear whether this is a serious proposal or a throwaway line in the council's AQ annual report. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@ManorParkLD @NewcastleCC Newcastle Labour’s plan was to revoke the Gosforth AQMA as legal limits have been met for 5 years (since the CAZ + changing to single lanes on Gosforth High Street). This is good news but we would definitely welcome further action to reduce air pollution as there’s no safe level.

@space4gosforth @NewcastleCC Aware of this but there has been no attempt made to brief ward councillors about this proposal. Incidentally, we think the draft AQAP has a glaring omission in respect of the B1318 corridor which would benefit from an AQMA.

@ManorParkLD Electric buses would be good but most pollution on the Coast Road is from diesel cars and vans. From the council plan “On Stephenson Road, the biggest contributors to air pollution are diesel cars (39%) and LGVs (24%).”

This is the location we believe the Government was referring to when they said Newcastle might not be compliant with air pollution law until 2045.
