@gutterballzz @CsabaSzekely7 @TerribleMaps ...he Voyageur’s Highway along the Minnesota-Canada border is CURRENTLY only navigable...
English

@CsabaSzekely7 @TerribleMaps Interesting map, but the Voyageur’s Highway along the Minnesota-Canada border is only navigable by canoe with many long portages. It has not been used for commercial traffic in almost 200 years.

@GradualReform @StatisticUrban People are for quality of life and overpopulation is the opposite

@BobBrigham @StatisticUrban Not populated enough Bob. The world is for people.
English

@StatisticUrban The western United States is still overpopulated.

@granitecrystals @ferrismattic @NotThatRBaxter This thread is an example; full of examples. x.com/UpTambourine/s…

It never occurred to me that when we say "preach the gospel," Catholics interpret that as preaching or reading from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John vs what we mean by proclaiming the saving message of Christ. Very interesting.
English

@granitecrystals @ferrismattic @NotThatRBaxter The irony is that that conversation kept highlighting the point, with so many Catholics responding "what do you mean? We read from the Gospels all the time".
English

One sometimes hears that Protestants don't understand RC theology. Peter Kreeft, a Roman Catholic professor at Boston College, notes a massive problem the Church itself has: Many within it don't know the gospel.

@strikesatchii @rabbriansamuel Which of the Naohide laws do you have a problem with?
English

@rabbriansamuel When a Messianic rabbi says he loves Christ, there’s a problem: they’re taking advantage of you and your respect and love for the Messiah. Wake up!

I'm Jewish. After careful study of the scriptures, I am convinced that Jesus is the Messiah, son of the living God.

@chris_dalke 0% surprising. Game devs are uniquely cracked.
English

It's super fascinating (but not surprising) that game developers often build user interfaces that are on par or better than commercial mission planning & geospatial tools

BREAKING: Rep. DeGette gets heated with a constituent pressing her on why she voted to send bombs to Israel:
"If this the only issue that you care about is this issue, then you should not vote for me"
DeGette, who's 68, is facing a primary challenge from @MelatKirosCO.

Certainly.
1) it is inferior because it forces yall to reckon with the bankruptcy of your preferred teaching techniques. From your perspective, that is the inferior option.
It exposes the failure of progressive pedagogy. Accepting DI means admitting that generations of professors, textbooks, certification programs, and district curricula have been catastrophically wrong. That’s professionally humiliating.
2) It is inferior because even though it gets much better results, it's less fun for teachers. DI scripts are tight. A third-grade DI lesson might have 180–200 teacher signals per 30-minute lesson. Teachers say exactly what’s in the script, use precise wording, and correct errors instantly.
Many teachers experience this as “deprofessionalizing” or “robot teaching.” They want to “teach with their personality,” improvise, follow the child’s interests, etc. DI says: your personality and improvisation have been producing lousy results for decades; shut up and follow the program that actually works.
3) It is inferior because it puts the students interests above the teachers. Teachers unions are not academic research organizations; they are labor unions. Their primary job is protecting members’ jobs, salaries, and working conditions. According to them, DI is indeed inferior.
English

@MrDanielBuck @ShakinthatChalk Direct instruction was found long ago to be inferior to more discovery-based learning. Next

Hear me out:
I’m convinced that INCREASING class sizes would actually improve education
Why? How?
Simple: Teacher quality is the single most important in-school factor
Consider something radical: Double class sizes and you could cut the worst 50 percent of teachers
Think “can hardly do middle school academics themselves” kind of teachers
That also would allow SIGNIFICANTLY higher wages, drawing much higher quality candidates
If schools actually have the stones to enforce discipline, there’s no reason a larger class would be more raucous. College lecture halls have hundreds of quiet students after all
Only people this would really piss off are unions and low quality teachers. Well I say “stay mad” and improve schools regardless

@DefenderOfBasic Fascinating snippet- where can I find the article?
English

@PharrFromHeaven The NYT article has come out- I'm definitely not on point with my prediction; while some of the abuse may have been facilitated by the high control atmosphere it doesn't seem to have been primarily downstream of it.
English

@PharrFromHeaven People in organizations: familiarize yourself with patterns of organizational abuse, and start being vocal if you see it happening.

Apparently the New York Times is going to have a big story soon and this story must be some really bad stuff if La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) here in the RGV is already erasing their founder Cesar Chavez.
Website "about us" two weeks ago compared to the new "about us" today:

The Notorious S.E.B.@bigseb31213
Now this is interesting - from an inside source, the United Farm Workers is anticipating a story coming out about Cesar Chavez that is so bad that his memorial association is recommending unilaterally cancelling annual matches

@annbauerwriter I used to be VERY afraid of dying. Now that I'm a Christian, I am not. The two times I've almost died have been marked by total joy, curiosity, and peace.
Every time I dream of death without knowing I'm dreaming, I also have the same peaceful happy curiosity.
