#OTD in 1793, the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders were raised by Sir Alan Cameron of Erracht. Men of Clan Cameron in Lochaber were initially mustered for the regiment. The recruitment area eventually stretched across the Highlands. Happy 230th birthday Camerons! 🎉

📣 Did you recently post us some very special photographs of Prisoners of War at Stalag VIII B, 1940? We would love to add these photos to our collection, but we need to get in touch with the donor to do so. Also, if you can identify anyone in these pictures do get in touch!

#OTD 1917 was the 1st day of the Battle of Passchendaele. It was a brutal battle with heavy casualties on both sides and has come to be associated with mud, blood and futility. Both the Seaforth and Cameron Highlanders were present, as well as the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada.

To celebrate our upcoming exhibition, this is one of the #PhotosFromTheArchive that will be on display. Sadly we know very little about the photograph, but it dates from the 1890s, and shows soldiers of an Indian regiment driving a 'waggon' possibly in Chitral.
