as an artist that truly cares about this space and the virtues that should underpin it, i think there is something important that needs to be said aloud for artists to recognize it
if we all stopped using SR and other high fee platforms TODAY (delist, stop relying on their biased curation that is focused on earning their fees) they would die out within a month
i know this seems scary as it may be all you know, but realistically these are not catalysts, they are dampeners
the very existence of SR, a platform that only lets 'curated' artists on while that population is in the 4 figure range, that charges insanely high fees, that is effectively holding collectors with capital hostage via their own lack of self-sufficiency to search out the work they want that exists in the space that they are powerless to find themselves bc of learned helplessness, is what causes these issues
'discoverability' is a keyword that has become a double edged sword. are artists really undiscoverable, or are collectors resting on their laurels and depending on extractors to tell them what is valuable to buy?
i truly think this problem is self-inflicted, largely by the acceptance of these platforms by the artists that power them
as a unit we are more powerful than the platforms that take your earnings as their cut. it is not beneficial to use them at all at this point in time despite the good purpose they had prior to the explosion of open-source, low-fee competitors
it is your duty to shut out these extraction machines, rely on self-hosted contracts and metadata, and lean away from minting on shared contracts and selling on centralized platforms
i am positive that after the collapse of these extraction machines cryptoart on ETH will finally gain a mandate of authentic growth and creativity
