One of my WhatsApp contacts shared something that got me thinking. Her husband is a pastor. He does not allow any of her family members to sleep over at his house. They can visit, but cannot pass the night at his place, nor can she visit her family. For whatever reason, she’s also not allowed to give anything that belongs to him, not even a pin, to her family. According to her, it all started after their marriage. When he went to pay her bride price, he was forced to complete everything on the list. There was no room for negotiation. What made it worse was that, his inlaws who were meant to speak up for him took sides with the umunna, ensuring he paid everything in full. After the traditional marriage, he vowed never to have anything to do with his wife’s family again. In his words, they “sold” their daughter to him. Now, years later, that anger is still showing up in the way he treats her family. So I’m wondering, do you think his anger is valid?

@oma22k His anger is valid though not allowing her to visit her family is what I consider “extreme”. Everything else is perfect. When he needed them the most, they (including the wife) abandoned him and let him fight ALONE. He abided by their rule. Now, they should abide by his.
