“If you take away anything from my dark decade speaking out on Trump and his minions, it is to never ever give him them the benefit of the doubt. This goes doubly in times of war and concerning anything having to do with their hold on power; such as assassination attempts and election results. They cheat for sport and lie for favor and fortune. It was beyond curious to me that both Melania and Ivanka Trump jumped into the news cycle on the same day last week. Vanky with a tearful take on her departed mom, the same mother I never heard mentioned once in the six seasons I spent working on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’. I was Vanky’s handler for much of that time and she seemed to adhere to her father’s wishes that Ivana’s name was never mentioned. Donald is a man of grudges, and his very public and acrimonious divorce was a legendary resentment in his life. Ivanka and her siblings meanwhile often had plenty to say about Melania behind her back; the animosity between Trump’s third wife and his adult children was quite palpable. For Melania to take to the White House foyer, unbidden by any forces beyond the undertow that still exists in the wake of the recent Epstein files’ revelations, points to a looming story that she is desperate to try and get in front of and possibly control. Good luck. The public will ultimately get the truth one way or the other. Vanky may have an eye towards this strategy as well, herself a former teen model, signing an Elite Models contract with John Casablancas at fifteen years-old and possessing an extensive eyewitness knowledge of her father’s mistreatment of teenage girls brought into the United States under the auspices of ‘Trump Model Management’. The would-be models were housed six to a room, made to sleep in bunkbeds in a dingy lower East Side basement apartment without air conditioning, while working off their travel fees under constant threat of visa revocation. Essentially becoming teenaged indentured servants who were fleeing post- communist Eastern Europe for the promise of glamour and fame in New York City, only to be exploited and trafficked by the execrable Trump clan and his predatory associates. Melania’s journey was a similar one; often left out of the recent revelations concerning Paolo Zampolli (who holds a position as a special envoy in the Trump administration and used his proximity to Trump to have ICE detain and deport his Brazilian model ex-girlfriend, Amanda Ungaro, with whom he is currently embroiled in a bitter custody battle) is that Zampolli ‘discovered’ then Melania Knauss at the same time he owned a modeling agency, ID Models, that counted Jeffrey Epstein as a client and basically served as a front for an exclusive escort service. Paolo’s interest in Melania was stoked by her resemblance to Carla Bruni with whom Trump had a long standing obsession, and she was presented to him as a sort of consolation prize, after being publicly rebuffed by the Italian model and singer (and former French First Lady who is married to disgraced Prime Minister Nicholas Sarkozy). Melania was presented as a ‘gift’ of sorts to Trump in a NYC nightclub; he became immediately smitten and the pair began dating, though Donald was still married at the time to his second wife, Marla Maples. Paolo and Epstein now had even more leverage over Trump beyond the simple favor of a matchmaking introduction. To have that same woman become the First Lady of the United States is beyond the imagination of even most spy thriller authors - and a gift to kompromat collectors worldwide, but most especially to Vladimir Putin.” open.substack.com/pub/noelcasler…

I know, many people just don't believe this. in fact, in some professions it was even more exclusive: an elder got on a phone, made a few calls, & his candidates (younger white men, protégées of his or his friends) were offered a job, without an interview. do you seriously think that, however educated & qualified, women & persons of color from outside this network had a chance? maybe literally 1 in 1,000. when I was an undergraduate, virtually no women were on university faculties anywhere except women's colleges; I did not have a single woman professor until graduate school & then just one, famed Helen White, eminent in her field. now, things are much different, but the pull is back toward the old white-boy network again, with T***p's special brand of DEI rewarding MAGA loyalists.
Joyce Carol Oates@JoyceCarolOates

before DEI, only white men were even interviewed. DEI was instituted to at least make interviews possible for non-white men; & to everyone's surprise, or no one's, once the playing field was leveled women & persons of color began to be hired. naturally, white men were miffed. not fair! when it's sheer cold-blind merit, all benefit. T***p had to remove DEI & replace it with his own brand of DEI: T***p loyalists. that is sole requirement for advancement in T***pDarkAge.

Lots of weird takes on the Hungarian election result from both left and right here. Peter Magyar is a socially conservative immigration restrictionist who wants to cut taxes and double the defence budget. He criticized Orban for admitting too many guest workers, and wants to increase Hungary's already generous pro-natal incentives. On virtually every issue, his platform is well to the right of centre, by European standards. His foreign policy is to end Orban's alliance with Putin, remove the Hungarian veto on EU loans to Ukraine, normalize relations with the European Union while opposing more Euro integration, and strengthen relations with Eastern Europe's anti-Russian governments, e.g. Poland. His election was not a sudden shift to the left, but a rejection of Orban's corruption, the failure of his interventionist / statist economic policies, and the humiliation of his relationship with Putin.

🎯 Apologists trying to credit Orbán for conceding are intentionally missing the point. He would’ve done anything to stay in power had he thought it possible. Hungarians made it impossible. Trying & failing to destroy democracy receives no credit. He didn't stop; he was stopped.
Adam Schwarz@AdamJSchwarz

Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people realise. He systemically consolidated power for 16 yrs, fixed the electoral map, abused gov power for political purposes & censored media. The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.

The Democrats are dropping Swalwell faster than a hot crack pipe on a schoolyard when they hear police car sirens.
Jesús Enrique Rosas - The Body Language Guy@Knesix

Eric Swalwell was the frontrunner for California governor on Thursday. By Friday night, his campaign chair had resigned, his fundraising page was dead, Adam Schiff was pretending they'd never met, and Nancy Pelosi was speaking about him in the past tense. The man went from "party standard-bearer" to "we don't know who this guy is" faster than a Snapchat message disappearing from his phone. The official story is that multiple women came forward with serious allegations and the party responded swiftly. Which, sure, okay. Except "swiftly" undersells it. Because the demon-rat party's reaction looked like detonating a controlled demolition they'd already wired. Every endorsement pulled in the same news cycle. Every statement using the same language. Every union, every ally, every surrogate, all reading from the same script that apparently materialized from thin air on a Friday afternoon. You know what's funny? When Tara Reade accused Joe Biden of the same thing, the entire Democratic apparatus spent months explaining why believing women is more nuanced than it sounds. Biden stayed in. Won the nomination. Won the presidency. Why? Because Biden was an useful idiot. Swalwell was not useful. Swalwell was a problem. Eight Democrats splitting the vote in California's top-two primary means two Republicans could lock Democrats out of the general. Steve Hilton is polling at 22%. The math was bad. Swalwel was told to leave. He said no. And then, by extraordinary coincidence, every institutional support system in his political life collapsed simultaneously. Yup. Totally coincidental. They did this to Bernie in 2016. They did it to Crockett in Texas, so I don't buy the 'Swalwell is a white dude' argument either. Since the blue party does not have voters, it must rely on a plan. And if you happen to be standing where the plan needs to go, they will move you. The allegations might be true. They might not be. It doesn't matter! The point is the party didn't wait to find out because the point was never the allegations. The point was power...

In 2023, as a member of the Texas House, I voted to expel former State Representative Bryan Slaton for sexual misconduct involving his staff. That vote reflected a principle I’ve consistently upheld: elected officials must be held accountable when they abuse their power. I have a long record of standing up to corruption and misconduct, regardless of who is involved. I bring that same standard to Congress. If an expulsion resolution for this kind of serious wrongdoing came before the House, I would not hesitate to vote to expel those members.

I just want to make one final point tonight. A number of women received cease-and-desist letters from Eric Swalwell. My wife did not. Every woman involved, except my wife who went on the record, has remained anonymous. So here’s the question no one can ignore: how did he know who to send those letters to if they were anonymous?

‘The recent geopolitical conflict involving Iran has significantly disrupted the global helium supply, raising concerns for medical imaging and surgical procedures. The supply chain fragility poses risks of service disruptions, increased operational costs, and delays in medica…’

HealthRanger@HealthRanger

The helium collapse accelerates. All mass spec labs are about to go dark. Medical imaging, too, for those instruments that use helium. My lab has a 1-year supply of helium in place, because I saw this coming and ordered my analysts to stock up in early March. Apparently we got the last available "extra" helium in the supply chain. Now it's scarcity and, soon, panic.
