Yesterday we officially launched the maize seed distribution initiative across all sub-counties of Oyam District, in partnership with the Machapala Group and the Janae Acilo Foundation. This week, 20,000 replantable tonnes of maize seed will be distributed to farmers to support household incomes and strengthen food security at the grassroots. Investing in farmers is investing in our future

Glad to have joined the students of Atapara SS as they celebrated International Women’s Day. Encouraging the girl child to stay in school remains one of the pillars of my foundation initiatives. I asked the girls to write down their vision, revisit it often, and celebrate both the small and big wins along the way. We also donated basic school supplies, books, and pens  to support their learning journey. Let’s keep building our community by investing in our girls.

Maama Janet and I welcomed our Muzzukulu, Charlene Ruto and her team. We discussed areas of cooperation and shared interest. I am pleased that she is investing on the continent. Africa must continue to focus on value addition in order to create jobs and retain wealth within our region. We also explored ways of strengthening regional collaboration to create more opportunities for our young people.

#UPDATE: I would like to thank Hon. Imat Beatrice Lagada, the first woman Member of Parliament for Oyam District under the NRM party, for accompanying me here today. In my candidature, I have learned that Oyam District is not operating well, and therefore we must start from zero. The education sector is not performing well, and electricity coverage is still very poor. We have Karuma, which even exports electricity, yet we continue to lack power in our own district. Currently, Oyam District has only about 20% electricity coverage. These are some of the reasons why my major focus is empowering the local people financially under the slogan “Nyayo Lonyo.” The culture of reaching out to politicians or leaders for petty help should not be necessary. I want to empower the people of Oyam by giving them fishing nets, not fish.
