@Midwesthomo77 well keep me posted on the recovery and how it is shaping your beliefs. We all need to have our beliefs worked on and I appreciate you being a solid sounding board from which to hear things and bounce ideas off.

@KenVanBooven I think it took a literal illness to get me away from my campaign and to actually reflect on what my beliefs are. If I was still caught up in that political mess, I'm not sure I would have come to this realization.

This is exactly where I am right now. I know I've pissed off a lot of people for being an ex-conservative, but it has become clear that conservatism and leftism don't work for gay people. We need something new that benefits us more than the typical Democrat and Republican bullshit.

@Midwesthomo77 Some Christians summarize what the bible says as 'we are all broken and condemned to hell for the sins we committed but are worthy of forgiveness'. I prefer that version over the groups that pick and choose what they choose to condemn.

Hey guys. I’ve been in a mood lately. Lots of personal stuff going on especially related to health. I think I’m giving into my anger and frustration with the world. I’m being pretty pessimistic. I’m looking over a few of my past posts and it occurred to me that I’m not in a good headspace. It’s not so much that I disagree with what I said, but I’m just not sure I *should* have said those things. Anyway, I’m going to take a couple of days off after today, gather myself, and return. I ran for the Missouri House on a GOP ticket. I ended up having to drop out for health reasons, but the following weeks gave me some time to reflect on my experience and I didn't like what I was seeing in the Republican Party. At one event, a man stated that the problem with Kansas City was too many black people living there. At another event, a "pastor" gave an opening "prayer" that was really a diatribe against same-sex-marriage. I was asked by some dumbass at the Missouri capitol why I was trying to destroy society. It was because she knew I was a homosexual. I could go on and on. Racism and Bigotry is alive and well in the GOP and it's not just among a small group. I bumped into bigots every time I turned around.

We don’t tax unrealized gains. If your stock goes up but you don’t sell, that’s not taxable income. I get it. I agree with it. So why doesn’t that same logic apply to property taxes, especially homes? Why is it that if my house value goes up for whatever random fucking reason, I suddenly owe the government more money?

Scott Adams broke new ground in death. Recording his show to his last breath he did something remarkable. He invited those who loved him into his sitting room, shepherded them through their grief, prepared them for his inevitable death, and without hiding any of the ravages of the disease that took him. He somehow did it all with remarkable dignity and stoicism. Just days ago he laughed through the pain as guests lined up to spend time with him. It was remarkable to observe. No hint of a man putting affairs in order, or seeking last minute reassurances or plaudits. Rather, it was like a father comforting his children. To document his decline and death, his human interactions and giving closure to those he knew would need it the most, he did the impossible - he made dying on livestream noble. A remarkable end to an already remarkable life.

@RepDavids No. The ACA subsidies were meant to expire. Let them Expire. I was working for a health insurance company at the time and the ACA didn't make sense when it was proposed. The higher costs are a result. Stop propping up insurance companies.

On January 1, health care tax credits that save Kansans thousands of dollars annually expired due to inaction by Congress. Today, Congress has a serious chance to make this right and reverse these outrageous premium increases. I want to hear from you: Should Congress extend health care tax credits and save families money?

I don't why but it still surprises me when you present evidence about a given thing to someone and they blatantly refuse to even acknowledge it, let alone review it. They essentially shield their eyes and say, "NO, NO! I CAN'T SEE THAT!" Because then they might have to change their opinion and we CANNOT be doing that, can we?
