It’s not so simple as “Air Canada is a private company” It was privatised with conditions. One of those is to operate FULLY in BOTH official languages. Shareholders bought their shares knowing those conditions. The CEO has breached those conditions.

@kinsellawarren That's wild to me. AC is a private company, and not only is the CEO being shamed for using the international language of aviation and commerce, but he is also being hauled before parliament. Unbelievable.

@spicy1812 Air Canada is legally required to be a bilingual company through the Official Languages Act, and even then the Quebecois do see things like this as an insult and being treated as secondary given they're the only French speaking province, hence why it's different to south India

This is fucking bonkers. The Canadian Parliament is summoning an Airline CEO, not because of a plane crash, but because his condolences were spoken in English with French subtitles.
