@SocTransitLover @suchnerve That’s a minority opinion. If a lot of people agreed with you they would have acted on their beliefs by starting a grass roots movement to change the DOT’s prerogatives.

“It’s none of your business what other people drive!” It’s EVERYONE’S business what vehicles are driven on PUBLIC roads, because they cause consequences for every other person sharing those roads.
Vivian@suchnerve

Sedans have got to make a comeback. I am so tired of seeing SUVs everywhere! (The small SUVs get a pass, but they’re on thin ice.) ***it should be implicitly understood that robust, fast, cheap public transit would be far better than continuing to rely on cars***

Renewables have created a quagmire. It’s a more complicated system, that is massively overbuilt, still reliant on fossil fuels, and wastes energy on curtailment. Unsurprisingly, prices have exploded, and are expected to continue rising. Nuclear is the way.

The world is changing right in front of us and no one knows it. Texas is running its world-class economy on 70% renewables, right now. Gas is there if we need it, but for today, we can save the fuel for another day.

This argument against nuclear is "Hypothetically in some distant future where society for some reason can't understand why this resource shouldn't be opened, it COULD cause catastrophe" while coal & fossil fuels actively destroys the world with a 100% climate catastrophe rate

The fact that young people talk about nuclear power and never, ever, EVER mention the nuclear waste that is buried all over USA in storage sites that will remain radioactive basically forever and aren’t secured or really “safe”

@TrashPandaRant The only racists replying here(including the one who said the radioactive waste should be dumped in Gaza) are YIMBYs and America first assholes saying nuclear power in USA is 100% safe

vivian@vivian39_

nuclear energy is sitting right there. just sitting there. producing massive amounts of clean reliable power with a safety record better than literally every other energy source per kwh. and we're out here arguing about whether to put a solar panel on a parking garage. okay

@huangbaizuo @SocTransitLover im all for public transit but sometimes you need to recognize that the only way to fix things is to rip out the old instead of adding increasing bandaids onto a system from a century and a half ago

@noemiemakesmaps @SocTransitLover why do people think normal buses could shuttle 225000 daily riders in the prewar city core without it turning to an even worse traffic nightmare? you should see what the shuttle buses do, shit's apocalyptic

@MikePMoffatt I saw a comment saying if we exclude Québec (where the happiest young people in Canada are, likely due to more affordable housing and lower unemployment) our ranking tanks even lower.

New World Happiness Report is out. Canada's rank has fallen to 25th overall (from 6th in 2013). More alarmingly, we're now 71st in happiness for 15-24 year olds. Anglo-American countries score particularly poorly on youth happiness, but Canada is particularly struggling.

@suchnerve I would love to see magnetic cars on a powered road, like those HO scale race tracks, only the city controls you, not your foot. No accidents, controlled traffic, what’s not to Ike?

@suchnerve All vehicles pay registrations fees to use the same public roads you do. If the DOT approves them for sale, they are as legal as your car.
