Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has alleged that Nigerian security officials are planning to arrest her upon her return to Nigeria. Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed the move is linked to her participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in New York on 11 March, where she raised concerns about her suspension from the Senate and sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. She disclosed this to PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone interview on Sunday. “I’m aware there are plans underway to have me arrested as soon as I arrive Abuja,” Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is still in the US after the IPU meeting, said.

Dear Ikadah, Thank you for your feedback. Even if Igbos are more successful than Yorubas, as you claim, that does not make the Yoruba sub-human. We are all grateful that God has blessed the hard work of our Igbo brothers and sisters, and we pray that Ndi'Igbo will continue to be a blessing and a source of pride for the Black race. Having said that, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the Southwest is the most prosperous part of Nigeria, with Lagos and Ondo coming first and second and Delta, Ogun and Oyo following. Ondo state's population is 50% less than Anambra, yet they have the same GDP. Two Yorubas are among the top five wealthiest people in Nigeria, including Dr. Mike Adenuga and Femi Otedola. And the richest woman in Nigeria is Yoruba, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija. Additionally, four out of the top five international investors of Nigerian origin are Yoruba, including Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr, Adebayo Ogunlesi, Tope Awotona, and Kase Lawal, each of them being dollar billionaires. In terms of 2024 budgets, the states with the highest budgets are all Yoruba. The Ogun State 2024 budget is twice that of Anambra. Yet, in terms of population, Anambra has almost one million more people than Ogun. When you buy petrol in the Southeast, at least 15% of your money, maybe more, goes to companies owned by Wale Tinubu. If you make a phone call in Igboland, at least 28% of the money spent goes to a telecom company either wholly or partly owned by a Yoruba man. If you listen to Afrobeats, almost 65% of the money you spend steaming goes to a Yoruba artiste. If you watch Nollywood movies, the top five highest-grossing movies are ALL by Yorubas. So, I congratulate you on being more successful than the Yoruba. But you must admit that they are not doing too badly. Thanks again, and may God bless you. #TableShaker

@realFemiOtedola Let us look at the long term benefits for Nigeria. It is self defeating to undermine Dangote refineries

This whole issue on Dangote is shocking and creating bad waves for Nigeria globally. - Akinwunmi Adesina Monopoly often exists where there are high barriers to entry or high capital costs. How many individuals or companies can do railways? How many can do refineries of the scale of Dangote Refineries? In a nation that has been importing refined petroleum products for several decades, the abnormal simply became very normal. No smart investor would make a $19.5 billion investment and want it to be undermined by importers. To manufacture is extremely expensive and risky. This is even more so in Nigeria, given the very challenging business and economic environment, fraught with policy uncertainties and policy reversals, and where the self-defeating default mode of “simply import it” is always so easily rationalized and chorused to solve any problem. Competition is good for everyone. But is Dangote refineries anti-competitive? What is the evidence? Has Dangote refineries prevented any other company from setting up refineries? Why have others not done so? How come they have not done so for several decades? Was it Dangote that held them back? But Dangote refineries surely cannot be asked to ‘compete’ with importers of petroleum products. That is not competition. Let the importers set up local refineries and compete by refining in Nigeria. That is fair and justified competition. We cannot and must not undermine, disparage or kill local industries, talk less of one that is of this scale — a jewel of industrialisation in Nigeria. It is more than simply delivering the cheapest product to the market. It is about domestic supply security, driving (and yes, protecting) globally competitive industries, maximizing forward and backward linkages in the local economy, job creation, reducing forex expenses and shoring up the Naira. We must not be myopic. This whole disparaging of Dangote is uncalled for. It is self-defeating. And it is very bad for Nigeria. Who will want to come and invest in a country that disparages and undermines its own largest investor? Investing is tough. Pettiness is easy. It sadly sends a signal that the price for sacrificing for Nigeria is to get sacrificed. Akinwunmi Adesina

Presence-,a fathers presence, a mother’s presence, a father’s touch, a mother’s touch, a father’s embrace,a mother’s embrace, a father’s smile, a mother’s smile,-these are things money cannot buy and will never buy. Only the Lord can comfort the Wigwe family at this time.

If your wife was to ask you to buy her a plane ticket to travel for holidays and you couldn’t buy it (by the way, this your wife has her own money to buy this ticket). Then she comes to you and tells you that her male colleague in the office has offered to buy her the ticket. Will that sound reasonable to you?
