The big change (like a switch in the economy) was in 2007, when the NPA dropped the charges against Zuma for political expediency. From that point, politicians (in the ANC connected inner circle) have been given impunity. Corruption shifted from skimming in the shadows to wholesale plunder in the open. What followed was the destruction of the police (especially investigative capacity), destruction of the NPA, breakdown of the judicial system (especially the magistrate courts) and oversight in general. The effect on the economy by the 2007 NPA decision was hidden by the 2008 global financial crisis but the SA economic underperformance from that time has been catastrophic. Especially in unemployment and poverty levels.

Eskom, the same useless giant that can’t keep the lights on, took R840 million of your hard-earned taxes and built a luxury housing complex near Kusile Power Station. Wilge Village, 336 fancy flats meant for power station workers so they wouldn’t have to commute 50km every day. The original plan, R160–R258 million. What did the crooks do⁉️ They tripled the price with massive overruns, dodgy mark-ups on bricks, furniture, even pool tables, delivered half-built rubbish and not one single family ever moved in‼️
It’s now a rotting ghost town, crumbling walls, broken windows, bush taking over, vandals stripping whatever’s left. Eskom itself admitted it was fruitless and wasteful expenditure, launched “investigations,” terminated the contract years ago and then just walked away like nothing happened‼️
While you’re out there working hard, paying VAT, buying electricity when it actually works and fighting to put food on the table, Eskom’s insiders and their connected contractors were laughing all the way to the bank🔥
Billions more flushed on Kusile rentals because the ghost town was never finished. Same exact time, the unions and “workers” scream “we have no money”‼️, go on strike, drag the country to court for more handouts, more benefits, more everything and guess who pays every single cent⁉️ You do, the ordinary taxpayer who actually shows up and works‼️
This is the same Eskom that runs crying to NERSA begging for electricity tariff hikes because “we’re broke", that gets billions in government bailouts, straight from your pocket‼️ The same rotten system where corruption isn’t a bug, it’s the entire business model. Ghost towns for nobody while factories shut down, jobs vanish, kids study by candlelight and the poor get screwed even harder‼️
Wilge Village isn’t a “mistake” or a “project gone wrong.”‼️ It’s daylight robbery and we have to pay more for electricity🔥
🔥Abram Masango (Eskom Group Capital Exec) – oversaw the Kusile housing disaster & faced corruption charges over massive mark-ups and kickbacks
🔥Mike Teke (mining tycoon) – his Masimong Group controlled 51% of contractor Liviero that built the never-occupied luxury flats.
