Neymar is in the top 5 most talented players of the last 20 years. And he’s in the top 3 of players you could watch and genuinely be mesmerised by what they did on the pitch.

Surely it’s quite obvious now that we just adapt our football depending on how the opposition set up? PL: win by smaller margins, more attritional, not as fluid etc because oppo (on the whole) are more resolute and set up more defensively. UCL: win by larger margins, oppo teams playing more open football meaning we can be more expansive and not have to revert to set pieces.

We’ve played really good football for basically 20 years with very little to show for it, and after a while, the “we didn’t win anything but at least we play good football” reasoning year after year doesn’t really work for a big club trying to win trophies. I also think our football was very good in the first half of the season. Since Christmas we’ve become tired and teams (except maybe Brighton) have sat back to try to limit our football, which means we’ve had to rely on other ways of scoring and winning.
