I couldn’t quite pinpoint why last night was so special, beyond the obvious scenes of seeing 100,000+ Arsenal fans all celebrating together. I spent a good hour just watching people walk past and celebrate with people they knew and people they didn’t. And now I think that what made last night a truly once-in-a-lifetime moment, for me anyway, was that every single fan had their own story of expectation and suffering to get to that same moment of relief and pure joy. Decades of near misses and pain, passed down from generation to generation. I’m guessing it’s also because we went through something a club of this size rarely goes through. You watch a club like Crystal Palace last season with the FA Cup, or Leicester’s league win in 2016, and you see the ecstasy that comes from living through a genuinely historic moment. And we got a big club version of that. Clubs like Arsenal don’t often go 20 years without a league win. So after 22 years, we got to experience a feeling that comes from an almost paralysing weight of expectation. Chances are we’ll win the league again at some point. But it won’t feel as good as this does. Not for the next 20 years anyway 😅 I could be wrong about all this of course. I’m just trying to make sense of why last night I was the happiest I’ve ever been.

Last night was indescribable. Here’s a collection of some of the scenes for those who couldn’t make it (or for those like me who are watching and rewatching every bit of content going)

I don’t know how many people were outside the Emirates. But it was a lot. Special scenes.

I think the furore of the VAR decision (correctly) going our way is that it happened in a game that mattered. If we weren’t playing for anything, no one would really care because 1) it’s the correct decision and 2) it wouldn’t mean anything in the wider context of the league. But it does mean something. So people are outraged. Cool. The multiple grabs and pulls around the box going on DO happen all the time, so it’s harder to prevent. Grabbing a keepers arm to stop him from claiming a ball DOESN’T happen all the time, and does directly affect the game, so the ref basically has to punish THAT foul. I don’t think it’s that hard to comprehend.

Best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced at The Emirates. By far. One step closer to history. #COYG

By this logic btw, every defending player should always have their arms behind their back?? Crazy.

If this is a penalty it’s a complete and utter joke. Same as last night’s.

This is the best game of football I’ve ever seen because it’s like the most playground game of football played at the absolute highest technical level.

Throughout the game today, there were moments when the boys looked knackered. At least 3 or 4 times, multiple players had their hands on their knees, were crouching down to recover etc It has been such a long season and it really shows. Ignore all the criticism this teams gets on failing to kill off games, not wanting it enough blah blah blah. These lot have given so much to be where we are. 7 more games of full support is what they deserve.
