@_cosmicangst Still would have been dumb, but not nearly as egregiously dumb and insulting as RTD’s nonsense.

@olgainthewoods @longstosee The irony is that the Timeless Child just filled in even more information about the Doctor’s background. Sure, we don’t know WHERE they came from prior to Gallifrey, but who cares? It’s meaningless. But hurray, we now know more than ever about their life as a Gallifreyan. 🙄

@longstosee As far as I remember, he believed that for a show called Doctor Who we've come to know literally everything about the titular character, and he wanted to give the question its mystery back. So to me, it deserves to rate higher than stuff written purely for shock value

Yes, I’ve been saying this for YEARS! RTD’s approach to DW created precedents and expectations that were never sustainable, and this heavy focus on giving the Doctor interiority and character arcs is just one example.

@yestodaytoday Eleven’s Pandorica speech is a bluff that’s immediately called by his enemies. His Akhaten speech is ineffectual. Even his final story is only salvaged by Clara saving his ass. Not sure you fully watched his series.

@MikeLPens 9 & 10 grappled with survivor's guilt and, when 10 reaches a place of declaring himself the "winner" of the time war, is humbled. every overarching plot of 11's seasons hinges on what a special boy he is. he gives self-aggrandizing speeches that are *validated* by the plot.

RTD2, just barely, because at least it had a good number of solid episodes. They both made absolutely awful, indefensible creative choices that have tainted their respective eras and the show as a whole (mainly timeless child and bi-generation/14/Piper).

@eIevenriver It’s nothing but creative bankruptcy and a spit in the face of the fandom as a whole.

@MikeLPens Same here. The worst thing is that I feel nothing. I'm completely devoid of emotions, within seconds my love for this show has been snuffed out and I'm completely numb.

I feel like I'm having a terrible dream and can't wake up. For years I've been at odds with this show but always remained hopeful! Doctor Who - unlike any other series - thrives *because* of change, not in spite of it, and change always (!) seemed to be on the horizon. But now?

Seeing some say “keep an open mind” about the regeneration, which is fine, good for you. But for me? Hell nah. This nonsense is the epitome of RTD absolutely closing his creative mind and clinging like a clawed death grip to his own iteration of DW. I have no energy for it.

@the3rdjp You’re not entirely wrong, but I’d say that this is about more than a bad finale (two in a row, mind you). It’s mostly about that regeneration. I just don’t think there’s a single way that it can be defended, and it’s exceedingly revealing about RTD’s questionable impulses.

For any mutuals who are still active here and want to actually see my ugly mug or hear my ramblings, I’ve got some TikToks under my belt. Mostly just Gen X thoughts on nerd shit, and hopefully a positive space for anyone but bigots and phobes. @mikelpen?_t=ZT-8wpDprwNLgc&_r=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tiktok.com/@mikelpen?_t=Z…

@sirDukeDevin It’s a bit more nuanced than that. The overuse of the word ‘transphobe’ to include anyone who wants to protect safe spaces and safe and fair sport for women muddies the waters further.

@SovereignMindsX @tehliamnissan @sirDukeDevin First of all, the idea that right wing transphobes are remotely protectors of women is hilarious. Second, there are no laws preventing people from using whatever restroom they want, so protect women from what. Someone urinating?

@oceanballadsimp @eIevenriver “It’s too complicated and makes no sense” was a mind-numbingly awful take during the Moffat era. It either demonstrated a truly concerning inability to follow basic narrative, or it betrayed such a biased double standard that the entire opinion was worth less than used tissue.

@lordofwhitetree Agreed. Love Jackson’s films, but they’re definitely a bombastic, “hollywoodized” take on Tolkien that TRoP doesn’t always lean into quite as egregiously.
