This Teacher Appreciation Week, this school year, was dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and brother who we lost tragically in November. He was the definition of our theme, #LoveAndLiberation, a living example of what it meant to "Believe in yourself or no one else will."
Just a thought. NC is home to 10% of all HBCUs in America. If we want more TOCs, why not create an HBCU Teaching Fellows program? Current TF expansion plans to include “at least one” HBCU seem to miss the moment. #TheNC10@CREED_NC@JEFordNCTOY@Morristeach1@Principal_SES
@DeAngelisCorey@DrLisaHerring You are aware that schools are already funded per pupil(student) so parents can absolutely take their students elsewhere. Public school is for parents to have an option for education it’s not the only one
@DrLisaHerring Families should be able to take their children's education dollars elsewhere regardless of the reopening decision
Education funding is supposed to be meant for educating children - not for protecting a government monopoly.
We should fund students instead of institutions.
An important update: Our PreK-2 & Special Education students will return as scheduled on Mon, Jan. 25. However, I have decided to slow the pace of return to in-person learning for the following grades;
Grades 3-5: Mon, Feb 8
Grades 6-12: Tues, Feb 16

As we move through the steps of Phase II of our Return+Learn plan, which includes offering face-to-face instruction for some of our students, I want the @apsupdate community to remain informed. Please view important info on my latest blog post + video. bit.ly/3oMYhOI

Attention Price Caregivers!
FCS is offering financial assistance for neighbors in need of help with rent, mortgages, utilities (gas, electricity, water and internet), and food. Assistance is only available for residents living within the Pride Middle School Enrollment Zone.
Let’s make sure every @FultonCoSchools MS and HS student knows what this is and has it saved in their phone. Text to get anonymously connected to a licensed mental health professional 24/7 365. #thisisnotnormal#somanyfeelings
Smartest thing I heard from a supt recently:
As part of reopening planning, arrange a simulated school day (or even 1/2 day) for key stakeholders (supt, bd, union pres, etc) to "attend" school under draft plan.
From bus to class to bathroom, walk in their shoes b4 deciding.
Our be❤️d Clara (& to all our APS colleagues), I’m just sickened reading this (so sorry this happened to you & others) but know we stand with & support you!✊🏽Also know that APS will not punish or discipline any employee for engaging in peaceful protest — your 1st amendment right!
For those who crowded at Greenbriar awaiting the new Jordans, gathered at Piedmont Pk, shot fireworks at the Mall West End & even those now shopping at Lennox Square Mall, know that the only thing that’s changed about Covid-19 is your chance of catching. #b1cc36821b93" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">forbes.com/sites/kevinmur…
My 10-Year Challenge:
The Average Teacher’s Salary in 2009: $54,319
The Average Teacher’s Salary in 2019: $57,439
That’s an increase of $3,120 over 10 years. Based on the current inflation rate ($1.20 or 1.76%) it should be $65,158.
