My position on weapons like AR-15s hasn't changed. I know mass shooters are using them but nothing short of total confiscation (which is impractical) will prevent that, but the police should have the discretion to confiscate them from persons who not mentally stable or emotionally mature. It recently happened to someone I know, btw.
