They’ve also banned live flames so the candles were all flickering bulbs. The team organising the service did well but it does feel indicative of a Lanyardist mindset that must have taken over Historic Royal Palaces.

A sad refurbishment of the Banqueting House by @HRP_palaces, removing the throne and Stuart Arms, from the Banqueting House.

Thomas Tomkins is one of my favourite composers. He is so underrated. In addition to Worcester Cathedral, he was a key musician in the court of Charles I, contributing to both the Chapel Royal and composing sacred music. His Sad Pavane for these Distracted Times composed 1649.

@WalkerMarcus @TheJupitersays Highly unclear why Oglethorpe was even the celebrant on Christmas Day (given the monarch's chaplains normally said Mass in the Chapel Royal). He had already told her that he would always elevate. Almost like she engineered the situation in order to make a point...

@TheJupitersays Correct! (Although I have a memory the service she walked out of when Oglethorpe elevated the host was Christmas Day)

Tonight - celebrate the Queen’s Holy Day* on the anniversary of her Coronation as a part of the series we are doing tracking liturgical changes across the Reformation. *Yes that was her Accession, but it wouldn’t have worked in sequence.
Antiquum Documentum@AntiquumD

At 6pm on the 15th January, Antiquum Documentum will be holding a Sermon & Evensong according to the 1559 Book of Common Prayer commemorating the Coronation of Elizabeth I @StBartholomews. This will feature contemporary music, ceremonial as well as a sermon about the coronation.

A beautiful Mass for the Baptism of the Lord, and a joy to have Fr Stephen Miller with us as our celebrant.

@cjsnowdon Can't argue with those choices. I also love the ABC Murders (because Bexhill-on-Sea, where I met my wife is in it!).

@fredfertang Recently read a book about that tour to the WI. Fascinating on various levels. Sobers made his debut, and Headley played his final game (when very much past his best).

The Greatest first faced Fred Trueman as a callow 17 year old in 1954 - 28 years later he clearly found the experience much more amusing

@ClarkeMicah @atticusfinch104 I live in Sussex, which used to have its own quite distinctive accent (very different to Hampshire). It's extremely rare nowadays to meet anyone under c.70 with it.

.@atticusfinch104. Alas, many of the Southern English accents have been swallowed up by Estuary. I can't recall the last time I heard a Hampshire burr, or proper Oxfordshire.
Paul PD@atticusfinch104

@ClarkeMicah I quite like hearing a plummy accent, with me having a Mancunian accent - but I do not us all to sound the same - Britain has always had a wide range of accents which has been the betterment of the country imo

The film is wretchedly compressed and unsatisfactory compared to the BBC adaptation. Oldman and Firth, fine actors though they are, can’t hold a candle to Guinness and Richardson.
Cinema Tweets@CinemaTweets1

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is always worth a revisit because the plot is rich & the performances couldn’t be better. Just the fact two titans like Gary Oldman & Colin Firth are in the same film together is worth watching. Oldman in particular stands out amongst a great cast.
