The use of starvation as a weapon against civilians is a war crime under Article 54 of the Geneva Convention. It's a war crime when Saudi Arabia does it in Yemen. It's a war crime when Israel does it in Gaza. And American military aid to Israel facilitates that war crime.

@Glenn_Diesen But every time he makes a threat like that he will go after infrastructure if they don't open the Strait, he makes it harder to back down without forcing it open. And forcing it open would inevitably drive up casualties making it hard to declare victory w/o regime change.

@Glenn_Diesen Trump could publicly commit not to re-invade buying them time to rebuild or could sign a deal guaranteed by Russia/China. And he could pitch it to the public and say he decapitated the old regime responsible for killing soldiers in Iraq and got a better nuclear deal than Obama.

@RhondaGarad It also never made any sense for Iran to launch missiles at Diego Garcia and deny doing it. It's not like the missiles could destroy the base. If they had launched them, the whole point would be to do it as an intentional display of a new capability which requires taking credit.

Update Diego Garcia: Further info shows the most likely scenario is that NO missiles were fired on or near Diego Garcia. No credible satellite, radar, video or debris has been released to show any missiles were fired at or near Diego Garcia—only claims from unnamed US officials first made by Reuters and repeated. Iran denies it. UK and in-depth investigation disputes Iran has missile capability beyond 2-3k. Looks like a nothing burger started by unnamed US Govt sources and just repeated without critical examination.
