@DrDicatrio It's above even them though. Demand is through the roof. Pokemon can't print enough, and it takes time to change the printing schedule. It's kind of a 💩sandwich for everyone.

This is not a Distributor that we work with, but this is a "restock" solicitation one of our friends received today, 3 days after release of Destined Rivals. There has been no restock. This is unallocated product held back by this specific Distributor to sell at a higher price, rather than giving it to a store that has earned the allocation through their spend with that Distributor. Stores are getting less product at wholesale because some Distributors are holding back so they can make more money (and that is okay!). The unfortunate truth is that Distributors, just like stores, are businesses. They have owners/shareholders to report to, and the question invariably gets raised "why are we not also making more money in a good market?" It's a valid question. With Topps/Fanatics taking a huge chunk of revenue away from Distributors they are forced to find additional ways of making up that money. Some choose to charge market rate for in-demand product, and others choose to put in-demand product into bundles with higher margin items. The end result is that stores have less to sell, but still need to make the same amount of money to pay their bills. Ultimately, the stores either take the restocks and have to sell at a higher rate, or they don't take the restock and have nothing to sell. On the distribution side, Pokemon does not just say to Distributors, "Here, you can buy all the good stuff and leave all the bad stuff for some other Distributor". Instead, they sometimes offer take it or leave it bundles to Distributors for things like Battle Academies and Deluxe Battle Decks that rot on their balance sheet. In normal times, Pokemon margins for distributors are in the mid single digits to low double digits. With Fanatics taking their ball and going home, Distributors are doing what they can to cultivate healthy margins and get stores that would also only buy the good items to buy more things they can make better money on. TL;DR: Distribution is nowhere near as simple as you think it is.
